Happy Birthday Mortal Kombat!

On this day in 1992 , Mortal Kombat was released into the arcades.

Woot! I still fondly remember playing this game at an arcade down the street from my mom's store. Great times!

Yep, being a preteen and embarassing older dudes by KILLING them at the end of a match was quite the priceless experience.

This game really drew the losers out when it was released. A bunch of hormonal kids pulling on the joystick and whacking away at the buttons imagining what it would be like if they executed said moves on their mortal enemies at school. I couldn't walk down the halls without overhearing some dweeb arguing the merits of MK over SFII or detailing how they would like to rip out someones spine in front of the whole class.  ::)

Then you had the moronic parents screaming for this game to be censored which only drew out even more dweebs and losers who lived in their mother's basements.

Thank God I had access to this machine after hours on the nights my mom worked late so I didn't have to listen to their mundane chatter.

Mortal Kombat is a turd of a fighting game. All it had was fatalities. MKII on the other hand was fun.

Did you guys have the "no throwing" when fighting someone?

From what I can remember, a lot of kids around me did. Some even played by a "mulligan" type of rule where each player would declare a non-basic move that the other couldn't do. Like I said, the game really brought out the retarded players. More than any other game except maybe Counter Strike, but that's an entirely different disease.

What!  Such a good legacy from these games!  I first started playing Mortal Combat on the old SEGA!  To me that was the best one!
