Sweet :)

Those are nice and cheap on eBay :

We'll see if I'm able to make a few ArcadeVGA type cards LOL. I'll call them MAME-VGA

Though at the moment I don't know how to copy and replace bios files, but I bet it's not too tough (?) Famous last words.

Thanks for the tips, I'll update this thread when I have made some progress.

Cheers,
Craig

Oh snap, I was sent a PM stating that threads get closed when they talk about using a bios file made by Ultimarc.

Like this :

Is there an "open source" 15khz bios file for video cards ? If not, we should make one.

UPDATE :

Well anyway, I ordered the modded video card from Italy :

If we find the bios isn't copyrighted, I'll make it open source and share it :)

...DO NOT MAME THE ZAXXON.

I think a person can respectfully "MAME" a classic cabinet.

1. Carefully remove the guts and sell them to someone who is restoring a similar cabinet for a fair price.

2. Make it a point not to modify the cabinet so much that it can never be restored in the future.

3. Respect the history of the machine, and it's possible future restoration.

Now the cabinet will see lots of use and enjoyment, which is in my mind respecting the machine, and the modifications are not too drastic to prevent a possible future restoration.

How could this be seen as "destruction" and "disrespect" ? Not to mention, each "MAME" cabinet frees up original guts for people that are restoring the same machines elsewhere.

Let's discuss this :)

Hey Craig! Seems we have a lot of the same interests.  ;D  I just picked up a Sega Zaxxon cab that has been thoroughly "jammatized." The last thing it had in it was some kind of dual trackball combat game. My intentions are to bring this back but as a Congo Bongo instead. Everything will be as original as I can except for the PCB which I want to use a mame PC for. I am very interested in seeing how you hooked PC up to your arcade monitor. (if you have made it that far)

I am thinking about going with the FREE ARCADE VGA BREAKOUT CABLES as seen in this post that The Nasty makes and just using Soft 15khz:

Seems like Soft 15k supports a ton of graphic cards and seeings as this will only be running the one game I don't think it will be TOO hard...

Have you had any luck trying something?

I will post some pics later of my project if you are interested.

Oh it's tragic how life can distract us from our hobbies LOL. I still haven't finished that MAME Blaxxon :)

To connect the PC to the monitor, I ended up ordering one of these :

http://www.ebay.com/dsc/i.html?_sop=15&_from=R40&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=1&_nkw=%22GBS-8100%22&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_osacat=0&_odkw=%22GBS-8100%22

I also ordered that Arcade VGA clone card. Lou had a look at it, and it's actually a hacked Arcade VGA bios. Which I find unfortunate, I was hoping to make an open source bios available so we can all make our own Arcade VGA cards LOL. Furthermore, Lou can't figure out how the eBay seller is able to make those hacked cards. So that's that, for now.

I am more inclined to use hardware 15k rather than software 15k, I'd be worried about accidentally sending VGA signals to the arcade monitor, which I hard can be potentially damaging. But keep us posted :)

I look forward to seeing your Zaxxon project finished, I'll have to make some time to get back on mine too LOL.

Cheers :)
