nintendo vs. to DK conversion
« on: September 23, 2014, 09:47:55 pm »
hey guys picked up a nintendo vs. hogan alley that used to be a donkey kong :(. Before picking it up the seller told me that picture was working, i guess in the process of moving it stopped working. The monitor does turn on and the screen is just white. I also noticed that the power cord is missing a ground, looks like it broke off.  I checked the edge connectors and everything is tight an looks clean, not sure what moved around in the cab that would cause the picture to stop working. I'm knew at this and just looking for some pointers.

thanks, paul :dunno

If the power cord has lost its ground, then you should replace the cord immediately!

Check the voltages, also try to coin up and see if that gets an audio response.

the video monitor is getting power and the speaker is humming, but when i try to coin up i get no indication sound. where should i check for voltage at the edge connectors or PS, i'm new at all of this and trying to learn.

thanks P

thanks im going to tackle it this weekend. Im assuming the original PS is bad if thats the case im going to buy nintendo PS conversion kit

http://arcadeshop.com/pdf/Nintendo_Power_Supply_kit.pdf

with that kit you loose the +24v for the coin counter but ill cross that bridge at a later time.

The Power Supply could also be a good one and the pcb could be bad as well if your power supply check's out.
If it's a bad pcb you will have 2 choices get it repaired or buy another one there are people on a website called klov that can repair it.

If the ps is bad I would try fixing it

I had some progress yesterday and it looks like the 4 amp fuse inside the PS is burned out, at least i hope that's the only issue. I'm going to replace it this weekend and post the results. The PS itself looks good, the caps, resisters look good on visual inspection. which leads to my question aside from an air can what else can i do to clean the inside of the PS. From the pics you can head the header broad has what i though was a little rust but i think is some kind of residue, what can i use to clean this?

also while cleaning the cab last night i notice they split the AC coming in and have a 120V plug in the cab which connects to the white box on this attached pictures. The box has a push button and it goes to the main harness/coin doors. On the box it says "time pilot" "black tiger" and something else with numbers next to it, anyone know what this is? I know this cab was original a DK, at least that is what it says on the coin box, but could this have been something else at one point?
