OUYA Arcade Cabinet
« on: September 14, 2014, 07:27:37 pm »
Just wanted to share a few pics of our most recent cabinet. Still waiting on some vinyl graphics for the marquee and sides.

I will say I like your internal I/O management setup.

Do you have pics of the control panel?  Did you use an encoder or pad hack?

Do you have any OUYA favorites you play on there?

I'll try to get a pic of the inside of the cp later. Right now we're using 2 xi-mo USB encoders. Have also used arduino boards. Both no lag on joysticks and buttons. We have some zero delay encoders we're trying to get to work as they are half the cost of xin-mos but they aren't just plug and play like the other 2.

Right now I don't really have any favorite games to play on it as it wasn't completed until this morning. On our other cabinet the multiplayer games were a lot of fun like Duckgame, Towerfall, Toto Temple, as well as the retro single player games. Super Pixalo was much easier using our arcade controls w/ no lag vs using an OUYA controller. We have a 2 player setup with double joysticks for our other cabinet and neon shadow was a blast to play against or coop. Emulation is great as well using the app nostalgia for the front end.

Did you remote the power switch?  Also is that an OUYA next to the controllers?  Or is that an external hard drive.  How did you address the audio?

The OUYA is removed from the case and mounted inside the cp. It is wired to the center white button so you can turn it on/off or put it to sleep. It's an 500GB external HD next to the controllers. The 4 USB ports run to a hub in the cp where the encoders connect as well.

For sound there is a speaker set with a small sub in the base of the cabinet and 2 speakers mounted in the top. There is a wired remote that can be used for adjusting the volume in the cubby and it can also be adjusted by changing the TV volume with the remote. I usually just use the remote. It is set so the TV itself doesn't output any sound when the speakers are connected.

The cubby lights up when the coin door is opened also.

I really like what you have done here with the OUYA.  Do you have any pics on the backside of the cabinet that show the backside of the cubby?  Anything special about the hub?  Is it a 7 port model?  Powered hub?  I'd be interested in seeing how you mounted the OUYA.  Does it still have the fan?

Thanks, it's turning out pretty good. I probably won't be able to get any pics tonight but will take some tomorrow of everything you've asked about. The OUYA does have the fan on it. It never seems to need it but left it on just in case. Nothing special about the hub, it's 10 port and powered. It seems to work as well when not powered though. Was planning on using a 7 port but wanted to be able to use separate encoders for each player so needed 8 ports at least with the 4 in the cubby.

Word.

I watched a few of your videos on your website.  I wonder if you have any of the cab running nostalgia or MAME.  I used the same version of MAME emulator (same icon at least) and could get rid of the buttons.  I was trying to work on it between getting home from work and picking up the kids from school.  Haven't touched it since.

I'm not sure if I have a video of nostalgia or mame. I created a bunch of dummy ROM files to pull metadata and show someone else how it worked so I could put them on it and make a vid. Anything you specifically want to see?
What buttons are you talking about in mame? I don't use it much but downloaded all the emus from discover just to have them.

On screen buttons.  It was strange.  I should try again.

I don't remember ever seeing onscreen buttons on mame on ouya.
I have them on my tablet but there is an option to turn them off.
