2 CRT monitors next to each other?
« on: September 11, 2014, 11:12:58 am »
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me with this...

I have 2 very nice CRT monitors (NEC XV29 plus & BVM-20E1E) that I want to place a few inches apart. They don't necessarily need to be on at the same time but I'm weary of damaging them by putting them too close together so that their magnetic fields cause (possibly permanent) image distortion.

What I'm trying to find out is do CRT monitors cause magnetic fields when the are switched off or just when they are on? If the field is only produced when they are on, then I could happily have them right next to each other and just make sure they are never on at the same time, which would suit me fine.

Thanks :)

If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Or a playchoice 10?

I'm not an expert, but I think that the ol' crt tube's interfering with each other is a bit of an outdated notion. If your CRT's have degaussing coils, they should be protecting themselves from the limited magnetic interference of another CRT. I would think you could place a sheet a metal between the two to protect them further. Not to mention, I think that anything potentially damaging, you would visibly see color distortion when the monitor is on.

I work in editing and we used to have CRTs next to each other on our workstations for years.
