I want to build my own arcade controls!
Advice from the experts :)

Been lurking here on and off for many years but the last time I posted was circa 2000 and even if I could remember my old user name, I doubt it is still registered
I was hoping some of you restoration experts could give me some advice on this cabinet:
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/scz/for/4651346556.html
It is pretty beat up and I am doubting it is worth the cost to restore. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance for any help.

Not a wood working expert.
Look for water damage. Swelling of the wood. Discoloration or bulging of the paint. People have restored cabs by cutting the bottom halfs of the cab and replacing with new wood.
Offer cash in hand. If nothing else you could use it as a template. Or save the control panel, serial plate and coin mech to do the "Grandfather's Axe" bit.

Here is what you get for your $50
A control panel that needs to have the rust sanded off.
A joystick that may need a little tlc.
Buttons
Bezel glass that you can have stickers printed for.
A coin door.
Does it have the game board?
Bonus is a monitor that you maybe able to service or have serviced.

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated.
Eric, when you break it down like that, it kind of makes it sound worth while. At the very least, it is $50 for a learning experience and some parts.
I think I'll give it a shot.
