Question Mitsubishi XC-2930C (Megaview pro) VMMaker Settings
« on: September 02, 2014, 06:59:03 am »
Hi,

I bought the first arcade VGA card years ago, used it then with an NEC XM-29.
recently I got active again and my setup now is the same old arcadevga (based on atriradeon 7000) and a XC-2930C.
I got decent results with the D9200 preset in VMMaker and the PSTAR preset in GM.
Looks already great: can it get any better with exact monitor specifications for the Mitsubishi XC-2930C?

If so I need some help in getting the specs.
I know there are lot a like questions out there, there are also a lot of threads about this.
How do I get the correct Specs for this XC-2930C?

Grtz,

Gurbz

Allright, got a service manual online, created  sept. 1993.

size 29", 27 viewable
stripe pitch 0.79mm center, 0.94mm corner
scanning HF 15-82kHz
scanning VF 40-120Hz
display size video 540mm x 405mm
display size RGB 500mm x 375mm

How do I convert these into crt specs for GM or monitor specs for VMmaker?

How do I convert these into crt specs for GM or monitor specs for VMmaker?

In order to get valid monitor specs for VMMaker you actually need the detailed timings (expected sync lengths and porch settings, etc.).

Anyway this is in case you want to squeeze your monitor to the maximum which only makes sense for low res arcade monitors.

Yours should handle "anything" indeed. So I see little point in creating a custom preset for it.

The D9800 preset may be more adecuate than the PSTAR in order to use the higher resolutions.

Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.

Thanx calamity.
I'll try that tonight, it 's now 1pm here.

I notice that by some presets the monitor does not center in the middle.
That means: if I use horizental freq, shift the screen all the way to the lef,t it stops at, say, 2/3 of the left side.

Especially with high resolutions. The arcadevga is used here, is that the problem?

Nice detail about this monitor: you can still overdrive the colors, they fly of the screen when the 75ohm switch is set to high.

Yeah, the D9800 preset works even better.
I stopped tweaking, started playing.

Thanks!

And started tweaking again - because: what to do with a monitor that 'can do it all'.
That doesn't mean it works great out of the box.
2 GM monitor presets showed a difference: pstar and m2929.
preset pstar got the picture more to the left @15KHz, with the other presets I had a left black bar on the screen or I had tot stretch all the way with the monitor controls, not nice.
m2929 is a great preset but it uses double resolutions.

I understand arcadeosd a bit better now and calibrated the screen @384x240. To get a nice even symmetrical grid I ended up raising the dot clock.
I ended up with H 19.5 KHz en V 74.5 Hz to get it even.
That's not the original values of the game but the screen is awesome.

I calibrated also on 256x224 and ended up with 59 Hz and 15.203 KHz.

You guys got any tips for calibrating?

Hello gurbzs

I've got one of these monitors Its crazy how much it weighs I'm a pretty solid guy and I was having trouble with it the guy helping me carry it to the car and into the house looked like he was going to have a heart attack or collapse, sweat was spraying out of our heads, I didn't think I could feel guilty about owning a display. I don't think this thing will ever make it back up my driveway.

Yup, this monitor is killer: backbreaking, heartattacks and now death by calibration.
I managed to carry it up the stairs with my neighbour, which was the last thing he ever did.
Are U using it for groovy mame?

Yeah im still at the Death by calibration stage too, That's why I'm going to keep an eye on your progress lol. Mines sitting in the corner of my room on the floor ATM, ill use it again one day, its just abit to big and heavy for the type of arcade machine I've been meaning to build, youll go blind sitting to close to it in a cabinet. I still need to understand the technical side of all this before i can attempt to work out what settings to use in VMMaker for all of my monitors, im still stumbling along after a year or two of reading the forum. Maybee one day calamity will start doing online courses via video conferencing lol.

Allright Killakaze and other XC-2930C users:

I use this for mame.ini monitor

crt_range0          15680-15804, 45-80, 6.801, 4.637, 2.473, 0.444, 0.063, 0.951, 0, 0, 160, 256, 480, 576
crt_range1          16100-16300, 45-80, 5.522, 4.418, 1.841, 0.186, 0.062, 0.618, 0, 0, 256, 288, 512, 528
crt_range2          25000-25300, 45-80, 2.662, 0.484, 5.566, 0.437, 0.040, 0.952, 0, 0, 384, 400, 768, 800
crt_range3          31500-31600, 45-80, 1.608, 0.322, 4.021, 1.648, 0.032, 1.806, 0, 0, 400, 1024, 0, 0

Based on VMM polostar setting this works great. I will try to use the specs in VMM in a few days.

Ok, used the following VMMaker specs:

monitor_specs0    15680-15804, 45-80, 6.801, 4.637, 2.473, 0.444, 0.063, 0.951, 0, 0, 288, 448
   monitor_specs1    16100-16300, 45-80, 5.522, 4.418, 1.841, 0.186, 0.062, 0.618, 0, 0, 288, 448
   monitor_specs2    25000-25300, 45-80, 2.662, 0.484, 5.566, 0.437, 0.040, 0.952, 0, 0, 384, 768
   monitor_specs3    31500-31600, 45-80, 1.608, 0.322, 4.021, 1.648, 0.032, 1.806, 0, 0, 576, 800

Corrected one parameter in Mame.ini

crt_range0          15680-15804, 45-80, 6.801, 4.637, 2.473, 0.444, 0.063, 0.951, 0, 0, 160, 256, 480, 576
crt_range1          16100-16300, 45-80, 5.522, 4.418, 1.841, 0.186, 0.062, 0.618, 0, 0, 256, 288, 512, 528
crt_range2          25000-25300, 45-80, 2.662, 0.484, 5.566, 0.437, 0.040, 0.952, 0, 0, 384, 400, 768, 800
crt_range3          31500-31600, 45-80, 1.608, 0.322, 4.021, 1.648, 0.032, 1.806, 0, 0, 400, 512, 0, 0

Results after running VMM

For the first time I got a full screen desktop (I always maxed out Horizontal on the monitor, still had borders), wow, something must be right here.

I attached the vmm ini (I use a ati 9250 op xp32 so number of modelines is set to 200 and Iterations is set to 5, I also create ini's. You can set these options to 0)

I also attached the mame.ini, change the rom directory to yours.
Rename the attached .txt files to .ini 's and you're ready to go.

I would like some feedback if you try this at home on your XC-2930C

Grtz,

Gurbz.
