NANAO monitor - which card to use for AdvMAME
« on: December 11, 2003, 03:57:59 am »
Hi

I was wondering if I could get some help from someone who may have dealt with similar issues.

I am converting an arcade cabinet to a MAME machine, where I want to run advmenu and advmame under windows 98 booting into DOS.

I have had a look at my monitor (well, the chassis for it) and it says it is a Nanao model MS8-26A screen.

Now, my question is, has anyone got a MAME cabinet to work with this monitor. I am using an AGP video card, a Radeon VT100 or something, and am having a few troubles. Basically, I can get advmame to run, but my computer hangs when i exit out of a game. similarly, advmenu hangs when i select a game to run. I am thinking this has something to do with my video card not handling the changes in the res when moving in out of the different programs?

i was just wondering: for those that got a MAME cabinet working with this monitor model, what video card did you use?

otherwise, what are the three variables to co9nfigure advmenu and advmame to work with this monitor?

any help is appreciated.

Try EasyMameCab, pretty straight foward.  easymamecab.mameworld.net

I'm not all that familiar with monitor brands but if it runs at 15.75Khz you can use the arcadeVGA, the trident blade T64 or several other cards tested that have been tested with advmame and work.  Note with arcadeVGA you can run just regular windows mame as it handles all the resolution settings with hardware not software.

I went the trident route and using the info on easymamecab, it was fairly straight forward.  There is a special driver for it that converts the video signal to one the arcade monitor can understand.
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...
