  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Hi, hoping someone can point me in the correct direction. I picked up a Glaxicain cocktail arcade that was parted out. With the remaining cabinet I decided to make a quick multicade for the kids and myself using a Raspberry Pi. Not very hard however I have encountered one issue.

How to wire the VGA to RGB board ( GBS 8100 ) to the monitor. I have found one posting on the internet however it was not much help.
http://thearcademan.net/connecting-a-raspberry-pi-to-an-old-15khz-arcade-monitor

Hoping someone can point me in the correct direction. Here are some pictures.

Hi Ed thanks for the posting. I need to post a few more pictures but let me provide this feedback,

Glaxicain cocktail arcade - When I picked it up the game it had some issues, like bad/missing controls. i was able to turn it on re- attach a few wires and jimmy rig controls to play a few games. The monitor and electrical are all in complete working order. My hope is one day when I sell the game to complete a full original restore.

waldo what part of the plug did u miss ?

the plug from the GBS 8100 has the current standard of
r=red
g=green
b=blue
g=ground
s/c=sync

I expected to plug the GBS 8100 wire harness directly to the CRT board. However, the current Glaxicain arcade wire harness that plugs into the CRT has more wires (seen in my photos) and with different colors.

I was going to map the r,g,b,g,s to the Glaxicain arcade wire harness but thought i would post here first. My other thought was when looking at the CRT board i can see a r,g,b, and brown wire leading to the CRT (seen in photos) can I skip the board and map those wires to the GBS 8100 wire harness?

Thanks
Waldo

its ok
in your post of the colse up,of the top board >white<
if u look at your picture,on the right is rgb/g/snc
if u follow it to the left,u will see a plug that goes right into the chassic
again from top down
r,g,b,gnd,sync..
below that should be a 3 pin header
gnd/-sync.>v</-sync>h<
the sync is what ever the board is putting out
most are native -sync

yes that daughter board is a sync-amp-buffer-board
but the end that hook's to that chassic is your rgbg/sync
let's hope the 3 pin plug is below it ?

the daughter board that the 6 wire harness plugs into it (assuming I am talking about the correct board) does not have anything below it. What i am seeing is they trace over to the blue (3), green (2), red (1), brown (4) leads coming off the top of the board.

Is this as simple as walking the traces and connecting to those pins? Do you think brown equals sync?

ok in picture #3 of your second post
show's a mixed bag of color's going to the plug
on the main chassic..
but your orange's >last 2 pin's< to the left for me would be sync
the next 1 back ground
then blue/green/red >from left to right<
now if u tie in right there ? and u do not get sync ?
we may  stlll need that daughter board..
if this is the case then post me picture of where the 2 other header's go to
i can better help u

Hi, Had to chase down a loose wire tonight, tomorrow I need to figure out a place to wire the GBS 8100 (5 volt) and I hope to try out the monitor.

Ed, Hi again, I have not made much progress with this Kitchener 19 Data MT. I tried the wires direct into the daughter board and I cut the red,blue,green,brown wires going direct to the back board on the tube.

i noticed a working Ms Pacman 19" Monitor Wells Gardner 19k4626 on Craigslist the picture make it look like a much more straight forward hookup to the standard red, blue, green, ground, sync.

Any thoughts on the the Wells Gardner?

Waldo

Picked up the used monitor, I confirm the setup works. As you stated the hook up was very easy and straight forward. This article help for understanding how sync works.

http://arcadecontrols.com/BBBB/sync.html

One issue the monitor was only $25, from a Ms Pacman, while I was told it had lot of life.....it didn't.

During a trip to the local Goodwill I found a 19 LCD monitor with DVI for $5. Well I brought that home plugged it in to find out the screen was cracked. Back to Good Will for the refund.

While there I found a 19" CRT TV with line-in for .50 cents. After a CRT discharge, de-shell, and re-mounting using the original monitor mount hardware I finally have a working monitor.

Now to move forward with the build.
