Wells Gardner 9202 problem

Hi All,
      This is my first post, I'm glad to be here.  I picked up a wells gardner 9202 vga monitor yesterday from a guy off Craigslist.  It had been sitting in his shed (not a conditioned space) for a few years but looked to be in good condition so I took it for $75.  He said that it worked when he removed it from the cab it was in and I believed him.  Anyway, when I got it home and plugged it in there was a loud hissing noise coming from the flyback transformer and I could see a visible blue (I'm guessing a spark) coming from the side of it (it was small but could be seen).  While it was making this hissing noise the picture was very unstable (I had a dreamcast with vga hooked up to it).  After a few minutes of warming up the hissing subsided quite a bit (was still there but not nearly as bad as it was originally) and the picture cleared up dramatically.  All wasn't good however.  Every half minute or so the flyback would make a few hissing/crackling noises and the picture would distort a little.  Then it would stop again for another 30 seconds.  So here is where I am at.  Is the flyback dying?  I have little knowledge of these things and the noise kind of freaked me out a bit.  I would like to trouble shoot it though if it isn't a big deal.  The dreamcast looked incredible on it by the way.  Any help would be much appreciated.

u will need to replace the flyback..
DO NOT RUN IT UNTIL U DO,this way u will avoid more damage..
here is what went on
mostuire got in it..now some ppl here will say oh just silcon it..that is a temp fix
AND WILL NOT FIX IT,byte the bullet go to bob robert's and get the flyback

Thanks for the help.  I figured it was a moisture issue.  I don't know if I can do a transformer swap though.  That thing scares the hell out of me.  What do you mean use silicone?  You mean put it over the area that is sparking?  What would that do? Is it something that is worth a shot?  Obviously changing it out is best but as a temp fix it may help.  If I am going to blow something up and that includes myself or my apartment then I may consider bringing it to someone who knows what they are doing

So I think I may have broken something.  I ordered a new flyback but I am an impatient guy and wanted to use the monitor until it came.  I put silicone over the spot where the flyback was sparking and let it dry.  To my amazement, when I turned it on the monitor worked perfectly.  I played with it for around two hours and then figured I would see how all the picture adjustments worked.  I went through all  the on screen adjustments and then tried the focus on the flyback.  This is where it all went wrong.  When I turned the focus up the screen started to become fuzy and would blink in and out of light/dark contrast.  I then tried turning the focus down and it helped a little to calm the picture but did not cure it completely.  Frustrated, I turned off the monitor and went to bed.  The next day I was curious to see if I turned it on again would it have the same problem. This time the monitor would show picture at all and would just make a clicking noise.  It will make the "start up" noise just repeatedly.  I did some research and as I understand, this is the HV shutdown kicking in.  My question is, did I break something else or can the faulty flyback cause HV shutdown?  I should have listened to you ed and not touched it until I got the new flyback.  What an idiot  .  Any help or guidance will be much appreciated.

well as u broke rule #1 it is hard to say
but u best put it aside until the new flyback come's in..
with u doing the adjusments u found ot exactly what i was telling u..
walk away until u have the new part

that board has onboard video. you could run your "dmd" off the integrated video and your playfield off the GTX.

make sure you setup in the BIOS to initialize the PCIe graphics before the integrated graphics so you don't run into performance issues later.

Ok so we have hit a road block.  After reaching out to Bob Roberts it looks like the flyback for a d9202 is non-existent.  He has said he was surprised it died because he had thought they were bullet proof.  I have been searching all over the Internet but I can't seem to find one.  There is a guy on eBay selling a d9200 complete board with flyback but I'm not sure if its compatible with my d9202.  I'm at a loss here.  Pretty upset I can't use the monitor I just picked up and my dreamcast project is on hold until I can figure it out.

You might try posting a "want to buy" over on KLOV.  I've seen a couple of D9200 chassis for sale recently.

i have only seen d9000,never a d9202-perhaps it is just a revision-in any case it will have a code number on the flyback that you can use to cross reference
the flybacks for d9200 are stocked by Chad at Arcadecup.com
