Best FE for interchangeable panels?
« on: March 14, 2002, 04:53:06 pm »
Now that I'm starting to build interchangeable panels for my ArcadePC, I was wondering what's the best front-end to use?  I'd like something that would allow me to set custom categories (by panel type) and switch between the games in that category.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dan

That sounds like a custom job.  Sicne your panels may vary from my panels type of thing.

HOWEVER, one could filter mame games by control type which is probably what you are asking.

Mine will be (jfront) if I ever stop adding features long enought to release.

I don't have categories yet purely on what cp your running (but easy to add... will have to look into that and prolong release once again).

but I have auto change skins (so you can have different images with your cp showing)

encoder config between

fe controller config between (so you can have different buttons for each)

different mame configs for styles of games based on control panel (so all 4player games can have on config file... all 2player6button games another).

95% of all the features I want are in JFront right now, but I'm trying to make it easier to configure, and make it so it works without any configuration (ie, first time you run it, each config screen comes up)

Next... I have to actually build some skins.  All of my skins are based on ArcadeFX's images (I'm a sudo-sucky artist)...  But since the skinner is pretty easy, I just need to make some graphics..

If you want a DOS FE, I reccomend GameLauncher.  It is easy to use, and you can configure it with as many categories as you want.

See this older post for a more compleat description of how I use it.

Real Life.  Still a poor substitute for video games!
