Noob question about latest version of Mame
« on: August 19, 2014, 09:30:13 am »
I've noticed that the latest versions of Mame (0154) displays the first 15 games and no more. I cannot scroll thru to see the vast majority of the roms.

Also, I cannot seem to find any additional menus of settings for video, audio or the like. Basically ever thing that would have been under an older versions "options" menu is nowhere to be seen on version 0154.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

That wasn't mame that showed those options, it was some derivative like MAMEUI or MAME32.

You can download the latest version of MAMEUI here (64-bit only):
http://www.mameui.info/

The only reason the list of games was added to the official mame build was because they were tired of people who didn't know how to use it complaining that nothing happened when they clicked on the exe.
It used to be that you had to launch MAME via "command line", basically a batch file that launched MAME and specified the game to be launched.
If you didn't specify a game, nothing would happen.

Thank you for the info. It's really hard for me to keep up or understand the evolution of Mame. I appreciate your help

To paraphrase the Mame devs about the UI: The built-in game list is deliberately obtuse to drive people that need/want a front-end to one of the various front-ends available. Some UI's come with Mame, like: MAMEUI, UIFX, MEWUI. There are also more "graphical" front-ends like HyperSpin, GameEx, Mala, etc..

Here is a list of front-ends, not sure how complete it is:
