Starwars is a vector game. Check this post:

SSF2 can't pick its resolution because for some reason you're forcing dotclock_min 8.5 in your mame.ini. Do you have a good reason to force dotclock_min? If you do it you should either do the same in vmmaker.ini so you create the required doubled resolutions in the first place, or use super resolutions as an alternative.
Unless you know what the specific options do, my advices is leaving the default options in mame.ini, only modifying the monitor option to match yours
Besides, always use a build based on SwitchRes
0.015b or above when in Windows 7. Otherwise you're missing important fixes that I did specifically for Windows 7.
