[MAME] Pole Position / II Service screen
« on: August 13, 2014, 08:03:54 am »
So this is an absolute noob question, but...

Yesterday I tried to launch Pitstop and Pitstop II Pole Position in MAME (I have fond memories playing it on C64).
However, I just got to some blue service screen where I could check control settings, listen to sounds, etc.

I tapped my buttons and keyboard, checked the controls for the games in the MAME menu, etc.
No way to advance to the actual game.

Could anybody please give me a hint?
I didn't find anything in the forums / internets. Try searching for anything involving "blue screen" and you know what you get...

BTW, a list of recommendable two player racing games would also be greatly appreciated!
The great ARCADE opening party is getting closer and closer!

Thanks guys!

Have you checked the dip switch settings in mame options menu?  The game might be locked into debug mode or something.

You're right - I mistook it with Pole Position.  :P

Edit: I checked the dip switches. I couldn't advance to the game by changing the settings there.

Did you exit and relaunch the game after changing the DIP switch setting?

Are you using a matching pair of MAME and roms? I have no problems using MAME 0.153 with Pole Position 1 and 2 (polepos.zip and polepos2a.zip). I had to get newer roms though as the zips in my 0.149 ROM set were missing some files as reported by MAME.

I am using a .153 romset that matches my MAME version.

I have also tried polepos2a instead of polepos2 already, but I got the same "error". It's kind of strange that the games haven't even been listed in my MAME .xml that I created with Romlister (with options like working only, no clones, no samples, etc.). The two games have been in the "Driving" genre-list of Hyperspin though.

Thinking of it, I may have confused some .xml entries in those lists that I added manually. I'll check that again.

You might want to check also that you have the up to date namco system files.  Also give your rom folder a scan with a tool called romcenter, it will scan your files against the version of mame you are using.  It will remove any redundant files and if files are available but not in your roms it will add them, also if any files are named incorrectly you can allow romcenter to fix them.   I'll have to try my versions of pole position now see what happens with mine lol
