Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to start off by thanking everyone on this forum for the wonderful help you supplied me in setting up my MAME cabinet even though I never posted a question until now. I guess i should start off with my setup. I am using a Soul Edge cabinet.

My question has to do with switching resolutions. I know this has been asked a million times but could not find anything addressing my issue.
I am running my desktop at 640x288 through MALA 1.74. When I start games like Galaga, Donkey Kong and Defender everything goes smooth. When I try to run games such as Rampage, Satan's Hollow, Asteroids, Battle Zone and others, they never load up and start. When I switch the desktop resolution to 640x480, the games that didn't load (i.e. Rampage,et al) run fine but when I select Galaga for instance, they do not load unless i switch the desktop resolution back to 640x288.
I decided to look at other frontends and decided to try Maximus Arcade. In the configuration menu there is an option to run an executable file before a game loads so I set the path to the 640x288.exe file and for the commandline I put in %name= galaga. There is also the same for exiting the game so I pointed that directory to 640x480.exe with the same commandline as starting the game. Also switched my desktop resolution to 640x480 for this test. (Also tried the reverse of the above with the desktop at 640x288 with Asteroids as the game with the switchres commands reversed).
Upon selecting Galaga, the screen resolution switches to 640x288 and Galaga loads up perfectly. (even though my desktop was set at 640x480). Now when I exit Galaga and the resolution should switch back to 640x480, I get a blank screen which never goes away. I assume it is not switching back to 640x480.
I have tried just clicking on the different Switchres executable files from the Windows desktop and they work fine. Clicking on 640x480.exe changes the monitor to that resolution. Then I click 640x288.exe and it switches to that resolution with no problem.
My question is has anyone had this issue and does anyone know what I can do to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance for your help!
