Mame Not Working - Zig Zag pattern???
« on: July 28, 2014, 07:03:39 pm »
Hello,

I've been doing the Mame thing for a while but I just got slammed with an issue I can't get my mind around.   I just installed Mame 154 on the Arcade cabinet/pc and it won't load past a black and white zig-zag pattern?

I have no idea what the problem is and I am hoping someone could point me in the right direction?

I tried to go back to earlier versions of Mame but get the same thing with them as well?

Advice welcome.

Thanks.

Have you ever had MAME working on this particular hardware or is this a brand new build?  How old is the mobo involved? What kind of video are you running?

Thanks...
It's an old pc but the thing is 153 has been working fine.  I install 154 and it won't load and I get the zigzag pattern.   Then I try to reinstall 153 and get the zig zag pattern.  I tried 152, same thing.   I installed Mame 148 and that works.  149 and up don't.  148 and below, work????

I did a clean reinstall and get the same thing?

I wish I could see a screenshot.  From what I *think* you are describing I'd try using command line switches and disabling hardware rendering.  I got funky zig-zags and garbage once when I was using onboard video that didn't have hardware acceleration.

Here's almost exactly what the screen looks like...

Yep - that's what mine looked like.  When you had it running on other versions were you going through a front end or batch files or running directly from the command line?

Try this...
mame.exe <gamename> -video <gdi|ddraw|d3d|none>

Start with the gdi switch.  That's the crappiest, but most compatible.
