Injustice: Gods Among Us...
« on: June 23, 2014, 04:49:43 pm »
So on the heels of completeling the MK9 project, I thought I'd give IGAU a shot. It's just in the planning stages and I'm still not 100% sure if I actually want to do it or not. I currently have 32 arcade and pinball machines at the house and have ZERO room for another, but my cousin is a big Marvel/DC fan so he agreed to keep it at his house if I endup going ahead with the project.

I spent some time this weekend and came up with concept artwork for the control panel and side art. These are just drafts but I kinda like them. I wanted to keep the Harley Quinn theme for all the art. Here are the pics and stay tuned on whether or not I will actually go through with the project....(I know the text at the bottom of the side art is off from each other, these are just quick drafts)

Current collection - 28 cabs, 4 pins. (32 machines and not enough room)

I like the artwork choice. Just needs to be de-squished some.

I like it... but soooo many characters to choose from - why repeat them on the CP and side art?

Maybe some Lobo?

Harley and Lobo?!  Oh god, two of my absolute favorite characters.  Ever!  Can't imagine the love child though...

Look at the girl on the CP, then the girl on the side art. Unless she went on a super-crash diet, that sideart photo is squished.

It's definitely squished. I was in a hurry and didn't do the cropping properly. I'll fix it tonight.

OK. "De-squished" the side art and finished up the rest of the art package. I think it's pretty good. I'll most likely be going with what you see below unless someone can convince me otherwise. Thoughts?...

Just my two cents:

Use a light Sans Serif font for your start labels. And maybe turn down the emboss effect a little. Do you even need labels? Toss the little red/yellow round logos in the top corners. They seem out of place. The side art still looks quite compressed. This art make a great base. Adding anything really takes away from it.

Picked up the empty cabinet for this project yesterday. Finally had some time to work on it today. I had to completely sand the cabinet down and apply a fresh coat of paint. While that was drying, I knocked out the control panel box. Sanded it down, painted it, applied the artwork and installed new t-molding. I'll get the side art applied shortly...

After lots of effort, sweat and an achy back, the Injustice cabinet is done as far as artwork and clean up. I still need to fabricate a control panel and wire everything up. I'm done for now. Time to rest my weary soul...

Hehe. there's a friend of mine I'll have to show this to. He LOVES this game. I'm not a big fan, but the cab still turned out really great.

Good job. Any more cab ideas or is this gonna be it for a while?

uh cause no one is gonna put a 400.00 xbox1 in a cab for 1 downloadable game.

Had the stupid developer for KI not give microsoft exclusive rights, you might have seen it sooner.  Pretty sure you will see an MKX cab before you see and KI cab.  MKX will be released for the PS3 Dec 2015...... :afro:

Got some work done on the control panel tonight. The overlay is just set under the Lexan. I'm holding off on installing it permanently until later because I need to trim up the Lexan a bit along the sides (it's a tight fit when the panel is down) and I don't want to mess up the overlay. These pics should give you an idea of how it's progressing...

that's looking good. do you usually get a drill template (toss away) copy of the overlay to drill your holes with?

I know right? RARE (owned by Microsoft) and Microsoft Studios (also owned by Microsoft) should totally release this on other consoles!

All joking aside, I dont see why they cant release it on PC though

If the PC version is anything remotely like the PC MK9 they can pretty much keep it.  There's an entire thread on PC MK9 in software, just seems like a lot of bugs play is not very fluid, and for our purposes they always screw up getting the control config right so folks can use this with control panels, theres always some hack or patch that has to be done.

KI is my all time fave, but lost major cool points when the new version came out on xbox only, i never owned one and never will, and i refused to buy a 500 box for just one game....

Oh well, the pitch was to just sell more xboxes not make the KI fans happy....so it what it is......

Derail stopped....

Very nice work on this machine..... :applaud:

I'm curious, how much did it cost to print all the artwork.  I have the same cab in the garage right now and am of thinking of going the same route instead of painting it.

Side art, control panel (including sides, front and overlay) and marquee.....$370 at a local shop. It's high-quality 3M vinyl though. Prices may differ depending you what material you use and who does the printing.

I actually just picked up an Xbone this week to do exactly this  >:D I've been sitting on a half-built pedestal for a while now, going to finish it in a couple of weeks when my woman does her girls vacation weekend. I don't want to threadjack, but essentially I'm going to block all the controls and run one set to the iPac and the other set to a pair of controller mods. My current projector is 4:3 only so I'll pick up something new that is 16:10 native and probably short throw (I'm seeing one in particular that is 90" screen at 3 feet, haha yowsa). Anyway, the 16:10 is much better for me since I have Steam (SSFIV, Injustice, MK9, some others) and actually that'll make using the bezel overlays in MAME a snap too

Edit: MK3FAN, just realized I never posted in either thread and wanted to say these new cabs are downright beautiful. Amazing job and I can't wait to see this one all put together with the graphics!!

Don't buy from GOG unless you want your art to bubble and fall off within a year. Scott does great work, but the material is sub-par and doesn't stick for ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

Interesting, never heard that happen before i have a few jobs from him over a year old and it still looks great.  Might depend on climate and humidity as well.  You might want to bring that up to him.  I highly doubt he knows, did you contact him and tell him your art crapped out?

Don't buy from GOG unless you want your art to bubble and fall off within a year. Scott does great work, but the material is sub-par and doesn't stick for ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.

Interesting, never heard that happen before i have a few jobs from him over a year old and it still looks great.  Might depend on climate and humidity as well.  You might want to bring that up to him.  I highly doubt he knows, did you contact him and tell him your art crapped out?

It's not just me. It's happened to a lot of people. I don't think he uses the high grade 3M vinyl that ThisOldGame uses. It's white. I've never seen a white adhesive-backed vinyl. ThisOldGame's is black and much more adhesive. Scott is almost impossible to get a hold of.

Just finished getting the cabinet all wired up and ready to go. I used a standard arcade switching power supply this time instead of AC/DC adapters like in my MK9 to power the coin door lights and the video converter. The +5vdc is for the converter and the -5vdc is for the coin door lights. Everything is tested and works great. I need to wire up the control panel and that will be it! Stay tuned for live demonstration at that time...

With only a few odds/ends left, this project is now complete. I'm going to design a bezel like I did for MK9 and then I'll do some live videos. Until then, here are the pics. Thanks for following this project!...

So I lucked out with the controls. Some of you know that I bought and gutted two MK Fight Sticks that I planned on using for the MK9 project but it turned out they didn't work for the PS2 games. I decided to give them a try in the Injustice cabinet and...they work great! I'm sure some of you were wondering how I was going to interface the controls, so that's what I did. Since I'm only using this cab for Injustice, they'll work out fine.

I also decided to install a "PS" button on top of the cabinet just back from the top marquee edge. This way, I can keep the control panel looking very much like a real arcade setup without an unnecessary button. I installed the PS button and the Select button on the control panel for the MK9 because they balanced each other. With the Injustice, since I really only needed one PS button, I installed it "out of sight" so I could use it when I needed to and not distract from the look of the control panel. I'll show it off in action when I make a "live" video. I'm about to start work on some bezel art.

Until then, here is the cabinet installed in the row...
