Horrible noise from Hantarex 9110
« on: December 07, 2003, 10:48:16 am »
Hey all,

I have a Hantarex 9110 in my cabinet, but it makes a horrible 'peep' noise which drives me (and the rest of the family) crazy... It only starts after I have been playing for 10-15 minutes and doesn't really appear to change frequency. My brother says he hears a constant noise, but I guess that's on a higher frequency which I don't hear anymore.

Does anyone have any idea as to what can be causing this problem? I would like to demonsterate my cab to everyone I know, but right now it is impossible...

I already tried jamming toothpicks in it everywhere and could see (or rather hear) any change... The pics also come from some other monitor I think, mine has a big fan on top of the tranformer.

I've seen the fans get noisy on that model. The bearings go bad and make noise every so often. Replace the fan.

Sorry to say so, but also isn't the fan. I jammed it with a pencil and the noise just remained. Other, related, question: what kind of fan is it (CFM)? It does make some noise (just normal fan noise) and I was thinking on swapping it with a Verax or Papst fan if possible...

The cfm rating is sometimes printed on the label of the fan. I don't know the size/voltage/cfm of this fan as it's been close to a year since I replaced my last one on this model.

My next suggestion is to install a cap kit on this monitor. Sometimes electrolytic caps going bad will make noises that come and go.
