can i use a lcd/led tv with hdmi?

Hi guys i haven't built a cab for a very long time. What i would like to know is rather than buying a $400.00 arcade monitor can I use a brand new flat screen hdtv with a hdmi cable running into the computer? I'm using an old version of mame 32 if that helps. Thanks.

if your video card has HDMI out , yeah.  But you wont run it in native resolutions (if that matters to you) and you'll have to use either HSL effects or a hardware solution like craftymechs SLG if you want it to look like a CRT
