MVS Neo-Geo 2 Slot Restoration
« on: May 26, 2014, 05:08:21 pm »
My first restoration was going to be a Ms. Pac-Man, but it's been taking longer to get parts for it so I have decided to work on my MVS instead.
It's hard to tell from the photo (that was taken by the seller) to see all the water damage at the bottom of the cab. The sides also have several tears where the wood expanded underneath due to moisture.  After tearing off the vinyl the damage was even more apparent.

I wish I would have thought about taking picture of how bad the joystick and buttons were... all rusted and full of gunk.

I've stripped the cab down and fixed the control panel... removed the rust and buffed it out before repainting it.

Today I've been working at getting the wood sanded down because of how bad it's gotten over the years where you could see the wood through the paint even because of swelling. While doing that I discovered how weak one of the corners were and it basically fell apart. So I sanded it down and used that wonderful Bondo stuff on it.

Yeah, I've wanted to get my hands on an MVS since around 1999 or 2000 when I passed up on buying a working one for $100 because I was in such a small apartment at the time.

Well, what else have I run into since my last post...

Wiring on this was an issue that blew my sound out on my MV2 board and I think it also killed the Red on my monitor (hoping that it's nothing with the monitor). The monitor blew a fuse which is now all taken care of.

I have replaced all the controlling and almost am set to be finished with this restoration, but still need the side art for it and t-molding. I also got the CP overlay replaced and it's looking rather nice at this point.

Looks great! Nice job but the colors on your monitor need to be adjusted...badly.
Current collection - 28 cabs, 4 pins. (32 machines and not enough room)

Where did you get the replacement vinyl? I have a Capcom Big Blue that needs the vinyl replaced and don't really know where to start.

I'm working on a couple 4 slots at the moment.  I had swapped a monitor from one cab to another and lost red.  If the monitor is a K7000, cracked solder joints on the video input headers is a common problem.  The red pin is on one end of the connector so it gets stressed more than the pins in the middle when the connector is removed or inserted.

I pulled the chassis to do a cap kit and replace the flyback on the monitor and sure enough the solder was cracked around the red pin.
