i just bought a cabinet " there was a Neo Geo game in it.. i think from 1992 - so it's not that old " including original monitor.
i want to hook the monitor up with my computer, " i heard ArcadeVGA'll do the trick? " but i'm beginnin' to doubt it a little since i don't know if all i need to do is purchase the ArcadeVGA - plug it in my computer - hook it up with monitor and of it goes ...

the question is :

can i buy the ArcadeVGA and just plug it to the monitor and it will run?

Assuming the monitor is a standard resolution arcade monitor, then yes, it's pretty much plug and play.  Note you will have to wire the video cable up to the monitor's signal inputs. I'd suggest getting the cable from Ultimarc as the wires are labled and it will make connecting it easier.

Actually you might not need that cable, depends on the existing wiring in the cab and your choice of interface. I believe a Neo Geo cab uses JAMMA wiring, which means the monitor would get it's signal through the JAMMA connector. Ultimarc's J-Pac would plug into the JAMMA connector, interfacing the computer to the control panel and the monitor. You'd still need the ArcadeVGA, which would plug into the J-Pac instead of directly to the monitor.

okay i've been reading alot about circuits and all that " nice stuff " i'm pretty new to this... but i've allready figured out how to hack some gamepads and bla bla " this is getting funny " anyways, i will take some pictures of this, as we think " JAMMA connector " then i'll show u and then you can tell me what i need, if u would be so kind   ...!!

The first pic on that site is of a JAMMA cable and connector. I don't recommend messing around with that circled area in that pic you posted if you value the life of your monitor.

 The J-PAC is a circuit board that plugs in to the JAMMA harness. No need to touch the monitor at all.

I've pointed out what to look for.

Number 1 is the chassis board for your monitor. If you have to wire directly to the monitor, it would be to a connector on this board.

Number 2 points out the standoffs used to mount the original Neo Geo game board. If there's a JAMMA connector still in the cabinet, it will be hanging below these somewhere.

Number 3 is the wiring visible in the picture. Some of these should be  already connected to the monitor. There should be two wires that connect to the power, often there's an isolation transformer in the cab bottom that they connect to. There should also be another group that would run from the JAMMA connector to the monitor chassis board. These are the signal inputs that feed the picture to the monitor.

The thing you have circled in the lower picture is part of the picture tube's yoke. It's not what you're looking for, so ignore it for the time being.

Yep, that's the connector we're after.

Fitrst thing you should do is go here: http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=N&game_id=8846 and download the Neo-Geo operator's manual they have. In it you'll find a schematic showing what connects to where on the JAMMA connector. If you're going the J-Pac route hooking everything up will be simple and straight forward, you can check the J-Pac installation page at ultimarc.com site to see what's involved.

i've also been lookin' at the JPAC! do i need to get the ArcadeVga card if i get the Jpac ?

Well, you'd need either the ArcadeVGA or another video card that's capable of outputting a 15KHz signal to use your arcade monitor. There are a few others that can do it, but the ArcadeVGA is much simpler to setup and use.
