a couple of software questions
« on: May 20, 2014, 01:22:49 pm »
1. Does anyone know how to setup bezels for the NES emulator? I have searched high and low and I can't figure out how to do it.
2. Does anyone know if you can use CP wizard (or another software) with a GPwiz 40? somewhere on the CPwizard site I saw that only keyboard emulators are supported.

1.  There's no such thing as "the NES emulator."  Tell us which emulator you are using and maybe we can help you out. the answer is most likely going to be "you can't" though.  I mean if you use MESS sure, but consoles aren't arcade games so I can't think of any reason why a console emulator would support displaying artwork.

2.  You can probably use it, it just may or may not reflect your actual mapping and you might have to do more work.  Most control panel display apps read mame's cfg files to compensate for any custom mappings you've made.  With that being said you might be referring to navigating through the program.  Something like joy2key should fix that problem.  Btw they aren't keyboard emulators... they are keyboard encoders.  An emulator would denote faking a keyboard, when in reality the hardware used in our hobby IS a keyboard... at least in terms of windows HID interface.

Does MESS support artwork files?

CoinOPS has some nice artwork for its SNES collection.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Mess supports them in the same way Mame does because it's the same code.

That said, I'm not sure it would let you use different ones per software list entry, it's more likely to use the one associated with the machine.  (I haven't tested)

I misspoke I meant encoder.

So basically you are saying don't change my mapping in mame with my encoder use joy2key to reflect the the mapping to show the position on the cpwizard control panel on the screen right?

I doubt it would, I just meant displaying any kind of artwork period.

So does coinOPs run on the PC as well?  I thought that was just a Xbox thing.

Okay I'm lost now. So will the joy to key and CPwizard thing work? theoretically it sounds like it would. Are there any more control panel viewers out that will work with the GP40 interface?

Okay with the artwork thing I think mess does support artwork like he said but I don't know if it is just certain consoles. Would it be possible to run mess and mame on the same computer without problems? I have a good version of mame and no nag and high score so I want to keep using it.

MESS and MAME are pretty much the same thing.  MESS is simply MAME with more emulation drivers.  To be honest though, it wouldn't matter since when you run MAME or MESS through a front end, they get run for the one game chosen then they exit back to the front end.
