onsite backups - input needed
« on: May 20, 2014, 10:10:30 am »
I have an external hard drive that I could connect to my router and use as a backup.

What's the best bet for software that can automatically, incrementally back up selected folders on several different pc's (win 7 home, and XP) and store it on that usb drive?  Acronis for $89?  Would need 3 user license.

Thanks.

I use the free version of syncback for simple backups.    They also have paid versions... here's a link to the comparison of their different versions, maybe you'll get lucky and the free version will suit your needs.

The built in Windows 7 backup and restore is actually really good, but I don't think you can backup to a network location if you are using Windows 7 Home.   You need Win 7 Pro for that.

Yeah it would be $85 x each pc to upgrade and id like to have the option to backup the kid's document folders as well.  an Xp and a vista box.  Plus, I'd love to be able to run it all without installing software on every box.  I'll check out syncback.

I feel like the dang helpdesk at my own house with 7 pcs/4 tablets and 3 phones.

EDIT :  Installed syncback and checked it out.  If it works it will be perfect.  Thanks for the tip.

not backing up the tablet and kindles.  just managing them from time to time.  mostly deleting the stupid flash games when their storage gets filled.
