Computer Choice for Taito Type X2, Naomi and Dreamcast
« on: May 15, 2014, 06:26:29 pm »
Hi,

I'm posting here because it's a hardware question in reference to a software question. So hopefully that is OK.
I am looking to get a computer that will run all emulators up to and including: Taito Type X2, Naomi and Dreamcast, so basically Demul and Makaron.

The computer I can pick up for $300 is:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost)
Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD65 (B3)
Video Card: XFX Radeon HD 6870 Black Edition 1GB
RAM: CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600
Power Supply: Rosewill LIGHTNING-1000 1000W 80 PLUS GOLD Modular Active
Hard Drive: 1tb (not included, have to buy)
CPU Cooling: CORSAIR Hydro Series H60
Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
I'll be running Hyperspin/Hyperlaunch 3.0

Now, the million dollar question. Will this computer run all these (Taito Type X2, Demul and Makaron) smoothly? The CPU can be over clocked, but hoping not to have to do that if possible.
I'm on a pretty tight budget and $300 is kind of the top of it.
Any help will be truly appreciated

you are golden with that setup.

taito x actually does not need much to play. its just a pain in the ass to configure. a small group on the hyperspin forum a made a tutorial and files needed on the ftp the make it easier. if you have axx to the ftp, looks at gigapigs folder

demul cares more about your gpu. the better dx11 score the better. personally i would bump your card up to 7 series if naomi is of high importance. i use an slightly overclocked 7850 and it will choke for a millisecond from time to time on some of the more intense games (like racing games). fighting games where fine tho, i assume thats what you are interested in.

Dreamcast also does not require much

Thanks so much SegaOutrun. I will probably take your advice and bump the gfx card up down the line. Appreciate your help.
