How do you mount your speakers?
« on: May 12, 2014, 12:05:05 am »
I'm looking at building the speaker panel for my cab and I was wondering if MDF would be strong enough for this...probably a stupid question.

Code: [Select]
   ___________
  |___________|
   |         |  6x9 Speaker
  /           \         _____________________
 /_____________\       |_____________________| 3/4 MDF
`---------------'

     ___________
    |___________|
  .  |         |  .    6x9 Speaker
 _x_/___________\_x__
|_|/_____________\|_| 3/4 MDF
  |---------------|
  *               *

*---x..  is a machine screw where * is the head and x is the nut, . is extra threading

It's a standard upright and the speakers will be above the monitor, aimed down/front at an angle. The speakers are 6x9 and about 6-7 lbs each. I'm assuming I have nothing to worry about, but it bothers me the speakers are being mounted completely from the bottom and only 4 carriage bolts will be holding each speaker in. It should be strong enough to not bow over time, right? Keeping in mind there are no support blocks under the MDF for the frame, but there will be on top MDF (because that's the hidden side).

I know MDF is strong but I just keep imagining the speaker set or entire speaker shelf falling down on whoever is playing.

is what the speaker looks like from the bottom.
