MAME lightgun crosshair question
« on: May 07, 2014, 05:17:03 pm »
I just got two light guns for my system, red and blue. I managed to successfully calibrate them and get them working with MAME. I also have them plugged in to match the color scheme of the rest of my control panel where all Player 1 controls are red and all Player 2 controls are blue. But, if I have crosshairs turned on, MAME seems to by default color the player 1 crosshair blue and the player 2 red. It's not the end of the world, but it's a little confusing to have those colors exactly swapped from the colors of the guns. I could swap the guns, but I'd rather not. Anyone know if there's either a setting or image somewhere for controlling the MAME crosshairs, either color or shape?

There is a MAME "Crosshair Options" menu that allows you to select the crosshair color for each player, but I'm not sure how to make a global change.

I guess the lazy way to do it is to swap filenames on the red and blue crosshair images in the MAME\crosshair folder.   :lol

EDIT: Works in MAMEUIFX, not regular MAME.   :banghead:

That's what I would do if I were determined to change the cross-hair colors. I noticed the same issue with my light-gun set-up. Doesn't bother me enough to want to switch the cross-hair colors, but I think switching the graphic file names would be the best way to do it.

Hmm. Don't see a crosshair folder under MAME (I'm in .148. ). And under Crosshair Options it just lists DEFAULT for P1 and P2 Crosshairs with no way to change them.

D'oh.   :banghead:

Works for MAMEUIFX, not regular MAME.

Scroll down to the crosshair section:
http://mrdo.mameworld.info/mame_artwork_supp.php

Check the crosshair path in mame.ini and make sure the name of the crosshair folder (which you create yourself) matches.
I seem to remember an issue with the name on mr do's page.
EDIT:
Quote
Mr Do's instructions say crsshair, but the default is now crosshair.  It can be changed in mame.ini

There are some alternative crosshairs attached to posts in this thread:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,121412.msg1336407.html#msg1336407

I don't remember the last version of MAME that I utilized this on.
It was either 146 or 148.
