Need info about 15hz monitors!
« on: December 04, 2003, 04:36:05 pm »
Well, i already told in another tread that i could get a jamma cab fully working for 250 bucks, i went to the vendor again today and he told me that the monitor had a 15hz frequency, i'm not a expert in this area so tell me if i'm right or wrong:

Can i connect a J-pac to that cab? is it fully compatible with those monitors? Wich resolutions support those kinda monitors??

Is it worth it to get one horizontal working monitor for "mame" use?!

Well, if someone already connected this kinda monitors to a pc tell me please!?

Well, thks again and see ya later...  ;D

No problems man, thats the arcade standard (15.75Khz) an arcadeVGA will interface this nicely, as will a jpac with another supported video card.  The Arcadevga card though is by far the product of choice though.

With a J-pac you are stuck using advmame to get all the resolutions in mame and although its a good program, its not for the faint of heart.  good luck.
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

Well, the problem is that those machines are pretty old and  the monitor chassi doesn't have a VGA connector!

I think i must connect a J-pac to interface it with the pc! Or there's other way???

If you want to use a different encoder (ipac, keywiz, hagstrom, etc...) then you can use ultimarc's "video amplifier"... (It's a bit cheaper than the JPAC if all you need is the video part)...

I'm not a freak!...
Oh wait...
Yes I am...

If you are having trouble understanding the freely available information about interfacing an arcade monitor to a pc, then I think it might be beyond your skill level. I suggest using a 19" pc monitor, and selling your old arcade monitor to pay for the PC one.
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Well im still waiting to recieve my jpac and arcadevga, but i was under the impression that regular mame could be used and the res tools would set the resolutions in mame to automaticly use real arcade resolutions. From what i have been reading this combanation is the easiest to use. Hope im not to off.

Yes jpac and Arcadevga are the only things you need, you can have mame running pretty much perfectly in a jamma cab in less than an hour. Also you don't need any res tools to begin with as mame auto resolution switch manages to pick the right ones without any tweaking on just the standard windows mame, even Mame32 runs most games in thier native resolutions.

You can mess around with res tools for the games later for those games that run at 25khz or vertical games on a horizontal monitor as these sometimes need to be run at 640x480 with harware stretch on.

Once you have have the card installed its really plain sailing from there.

Yep!

Wich resolutions support those kinda monitors??

Up to 800x600 in interlace mode AFAIK. Your milage may vary.

I wouldn't use any other kind of monitor. I am glad I spent the time, money, and effort getting the arcade monitor interfaced and working. Once you get yours working, I'm sure you'll feel the same way.

I did it. At first, I used a Matrox g400 with the J-Pac (which only allows a 15hz signal to be sent to the monitor) until I got an ArcadeVGA. If you are going to operate in DOS, just the J-PAC will be fine. The ArcadeVGA is better, but hey...
