a few question on monitors and converters and gpus!
« on: April 18, 2014, 10:18:24 am »
hello! long time lurker first time poster! i look forward to being a member here!

ok so im a bit torn here. heres my situation.

i just built a new pc using new and used parts.

i3-3220
asus h16-m motherboard
8 gigs ddr3
ati hd5750
windows7

the cab i have is a old ballys sente. i retro fitted it so i can use a makvison 24.8 monitor.

ok heres the problem im having i didnt know this until i pluged up my  monitor. upon boot up the monitor made a horrible clicking sound with garbage on the screen. i thought myself that a received a broken monitor, but after a bit of trial and error i realized that asus boards uefi bios outputs a higher res that is throwing my monitor out of sync. and after a bit more research windows 7 does this as well. so far my solution is just to wait until windows is fully booted and turn on the monitor which work awesome after that. i purchased an arcadevga(5000)  from ultimarc thinking this might fixed my problem but after  reading around i heard it still has problem displaying uefi bios. im still going to install it and try it out. i would really like to power everything on at once. instead of routing a new switch to the front for the monitor as well. its not a problem if i have to but trying to find more solutions. '

so hers my question. is there a converter that outputs all singles from my pc to the moniter at a lower res setting? 640X480 31khz? i know im a bit late but i did see the ultracade uvc which would be perfect to bad it out of production. and also read up on the gonbes (GBS-8220) not sure if that is same type of converter? is there any other solutions?

heres where im torn a bit as well.

im worried that i might be taking a hit graphical wise using the arcade vga as well. im looking to play a few naomi games running demul and tatio type x games. that one of the reason im trying to find a converter as well so i can still keep my previous gpu in the pc. unless anybody has exprience running AVGA(5000) with newer type games? how does it run?

i really appreciate any help and look forward to your answers.

abby!

Well Ultimarc says the newest AVGA card is guaranteed to run SF4 at 60FPS.  I'm not sure what the number is.

I have a similar situation on my DDR machine (which runs a PC with StepMania and has resolution issues until windows has booted).

I'm running a J-PAC adapter to a Makvision monitor and that doesn't convert the video signal but it DOES disable the sync pin if it senses a range that isn't supported by your monitor... this supposedly protects your monitor but it still shows garbage on the screen.

So even with that I'm currently waiting until the PC has booted before I turn the rest of the cab on.

--------

I've seen people put the monitor power on a relay that is controlled by a piece of software within windows... so when you power on everything at once the monitor is off until a little program in windows triggers the relay to turn it on. Which IMO is a better solution than downgrading to an Arcade VGA... which from the sound of it might not completely solve your problem either.

Me Personally. the J-PAC adapter has an LED that changes color depending on whether or not the signal is save so I'm thinking of triggering the relay from that instead of software.

thanks for the info! thats funny because i was thinking the same thing along these lines http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Interface-Four-4-Relay-Way-Board-Controller-/180751009911?_trksid=p2054897.l4275

and just have it run the software windows boot up.

seems like this monitor is giving me more trouble then i attended. i hope it pays off in the long run. im getting more worried the deeper i get into it.

Youve got one of the easiest arcade monitors to get setup and working... the only thing easier would be to run an lcd.... PCs and arcade monitors in general just dont get along well... just be glad youre not trying to get a 15k only monitor working.... thats way harder than a trisync
