New to groovymame. Havng video issues
« on: March 29, 2014, 01:35:43 am »
I just started using groovymame.  I've got two problems that I don't know how to fix.  First, some games seem to run in a little window instead of fullscreen.  The mame.ini is configured to run fullscreen.  It is technically full screen, but it's a little tiny square in the middle.  The other, since this is going in my cabinet, is the nag screen.  Is there a way to skip this in groovymame?

Can you tell us more about your setup?
What hardware/software are you running?
Upload a log of a game you have issues with: groovymame.exe romname -v >romname.txt
then upload romname.txt

Have you read through this, and set it up correctly?

I'm using a single core Intel with its inboard video.  I going into a 22nd inch viewsonic crt and my sound is driven by a sound blaster live card.   The Os is a customized lightweight Linux that's running of a cf card.

Here's my files.  I tried using vesa_480 but it ran at about 50% speed.  What do I need to do here?  I've got a viewsonic 810 CRT monitor running on it now.  I also can't seem to get nag screens to hide.  I tried "nonag 1" in the ini file but to no avail.

Regarding nag screens, in your ini file, try these settings:

skip_gameinfo 1. Bypasses the game information a.k.a move the joystick left and right screen.
disable_nagscreen_patch 0. More screen skipping.
disable_loading_patch 0. Another screen skip.

They are from the arcadeotaku page and worked well for me.

I also can't seem to get nag screens to hide.  I tried "nonag 1" in the ini file but to no avail.

You won't get anything worth with an Intel card. It probably won't work. Besides, GroovyMAME needs a Linux kernel specifically patched for it, otherwise resolution switching will fail. Either try GroovyArcade or get the required patches here: https://code.google.com/p/groovyarcade/source/browse?repo=diff

 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt

I don't see anything there for intel.

This is because Intel is not supported, which doesn't mean it shouldn't work at all, but definitely not the advanced video features you get with the supported ATI chipsets. But anyway, there are patches there for SDL too that you will need. You can also try GroovyArcade to see if it works any better so it's worth the time trying to patch your customized Linux.
