I was wondering about your control panel, I really like the layout and it dosen't seem to take up too much space. What's the deminsions of the top board of your CP? By the way awesome cabinet!

The control panel is 24" wide and 9" deep. Unfortunately I don't have a diagram available. This photo provides the best view of the control layout:

and here it is installed:

Thanks buddy! Looks like the track ball is in the exact center, right? And besides your player 1 and 2 buttons what other functions do the other buttons do? Thanks, your cabinet is really helping me design my own.

You bet. The trackball is centered. The buttons adjacent to the Player Start are the coin insert buttons. The two buttons above the trackball are the left and right mouse buttons. I use the Player One Start as a shift button to access the MAME admin commands.

How wide is your cabinet?

DM, the control panel is 24.00" wide. I used 0.75" MDF, so the total width is 25.50".

I envy you, being able to start construction on a new cabinet! Fun and exciting times await you!

I used the Centipede dimensions provided by Jakobud on his website: http://www.jakobud.com

The only change I made was to extend the control panel out by a couple inches to pack in all of the controls and give my palms a place to rest.

If you can't plot the drawings, you may want to go get a roll of butcher paper like I did and lay it out on a table. Transfer the dimensions using a long ruler and a t-square. This will help get you familiar with every side and angle - it'll also allow you to plan for things such as a keyboard drawer and whether or not your monitor will fit. Plan, plan, plan!!

The other benefit of having your plans on paper to exact scale is that when you get your big boards of MDF, you can just lay the paper over the boards, poke holes through them to mark the corners, and then pretty much play connect the dots with a rotary saw and jig saw.

Chances are your lines won't be straight, so get a palm sander too - it'll smooth everything out and is pretty good at making curves as well.

Terrific looking cabinet--its too bad ones like these don't show up on tv instead of the half-assed ones you always see--so how long till withdrawl kicks in and you build another?
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

Once again I have to bug ya, did you have any trouble fitting your 22" NEC monitor into Jacobud"s Centipide measurements for your cabinet? I bought and just got my 21" NEC monitor from poweron, thanks by the way for that great tip, and I'm wondering how deep I have to design my cabinet. The rough measurements for the thing is like 20" by 20" and I was figuring making the cab 26" deep to handle it. I'd rather go with 24" if I can get away with it.

Hey John, your Centipede turned out unbelievable - love it to look at these pictures!  :D

Somehow I should've kept the 2,25" trackball, it's very good integrated in the controlpanel and doesn't look disturbing at it looks on most "all-controlls-there"-panels! :)

Okay, when I'd do so I'd loose the reason to swap my controlpanels, so I never noticed the clean look with the trackball. ;)

Perfect work!  :D
