almost there! need advice on TOSP flash Ver 1.0 xbox
« on: March 15, 2014, 01:31:18 pm »
OK so here are the facts and what I have accomplished...

XBOX ver 1.0

Soft modded (came this way)

I am trying to install a bigger aftermarket HDD...here is what I have done...

Boot with original XBOX HDD (Soft Mod) and load up Slayers Evox 2.7 FINAL from DVD.... then swap HDD to my new bigger HDD

Then I use Slayers Evox 2.7 FINAL it to make a new HDD from scratch, then I installed all apps ect ect (all using Slayers Evox 2.7 FINAL)

When I boot to the HDD I made using Slayers Evox 2.7 FINAL.... I get a Microsoft  error screen.

I think the HDD is good to go and my problem is with a TSOP flash needing to be done.  I have come across something about soldering a jumper before you do this.

Slayers Evox 2.7 FINAL has a option for a TOSP flash, but it has BIG WARNINGS about killing your xbox so I have not attempted until I can find out exactly what I need to do.

Thanks all.  I will be away for the week starting tomorrow (Sun) .. so if you do not hear beck from me...I will check in next weekend.

just solder the points and tsop flash. google image for "xbox tsop 1.0"

you can kill the xbox if it "hangs" for any reason while its flashing the nand. happened to me once :hissy: out of few HUNDRED xboxes I modded. but I didn't matter because I installed a chip and fixed it anyway.

for 1.0 board you need to bridge 2 points.

right on!   Thanks Snaake!!

So I bridge these 2 points on my Ver 1.0 Xbox and flash away....nice.  If I understand correctly after this flash my HDD I made with Slayers disk will work fine.

Do I need to put a specific flash on??  sorry to be such a noob...but I dont wanna brick the box, lol

If this all works out....I guess there is no reason to buy a chip like the Duo-X 3 any more ???

Thanks

P.S.

These are the flash options on my Slayers disc...

No not you.  Pay attention to this forum and the software forum.  There have been 10+ xbox related posts this month, which is rather unheard of.

you wanna pick 7b2. the bios will expect the dashboard on the C drive and all apps on the F drive. thats how the drive should be formatted to.

not sure how you formatted your drive but after the tsop flash, you can just boot your xbox from the slayer disc and format your drive clean.

1. I am lost on how your booting slayer's or aid on something that is not even modded already.

2. if you did what you stated in the OP to me it sounds like it was formatted on the wrong partition and the hdd was not locked to the motherboard afterwards is all.

I am not a soft mod guy though and never got into it becuase what I seen in each thread involves too many questions to even bother with for me lol.

I had AID 4.0 on cd and the drive on the 1.1 xbox had fits reading it. So I just burnt it on DVD at x2 speed and it fired up.

I've got the HD component cable connected and the TV says 1080i output, but I get a lot of screen flashing when loading games, which looks like the xbox cannot drop down to 480p.  Only Black seems to work at 720p per Wikipedia.

Other than swapping to composite, is there a way to get the xbox to display 480p when set at HD?  I cannot seem to write to EEPROM.

You are right Howard, looks like the xbox is getting a revival.  ;D

it has to be turned on from the box if you have one and also set in the systems stock os display settings for it to display progressive.

if the option is not there then something is goofy with the av out cable.

I just use the official one wich look's amazing in hd.

So did a bunch of Xboxes fall of a truck recently or something?  Seems to be a ton of classic xbox posts lately.

I think someone commented in one of the OUYA threads that the classic Xbox was more suited than the OUYA.  Then collectively everyone thought  "Oh ya, I have one of those,"  looked in the basement/closet/whatever and dug it out.

I had also made a few comments about wiring a KADE for use with Xbox.

edit
I think this is worthy of a hole punch on the geek/video game nerd credibility card.  I think that is just as valid a reason as any other as why people are doing it.

We could remind folks that they could write disc for us on the dreamcast too.  But I've never done that.

the news is getting out:

- You can get them for $10
http://www.shopgoodwill.com/search/SearchKey.asp?itemTitle=&catid=296&showthumbs=on

- I think they are the best low cost arcade "brain" out there if you want to run older arcades (some newer), computers games, and consoles up to but not including PSX and N64, it is perfect.  It will run n64 and psx but most games are a bit glitchy or laggy.

- there are a bunch of great software options and front ends

- if you research enough, you can do some cool stuff like my tate cab: http://goo.gl/FkGKNT

- I am slightly biased in thinking that KADE plays a little part in it.   ::)

The problems with Xbox are:

No HDMI

No remote power solution unless you get your hands on an IR mod (best of luck there)

A real VGA connection requires an adapter that's proven difficult for me to find at a reasonable price

Interfacing controls requires hacking up gamepads or buying Kades.  Kades get expensive when you buy four of them, but I've been to that website 20 times and still can't figure out what exactly I need to order.

I'm sure there are others but those are the ones that have persistently been an issue for me.

Apparently its a thing, but I don't know how to what needs to be done, so I can't comment in its utility as a platform.  But from reading the libreto libretro website, it works on more platforms than Sine Mora does.
TBH, I haven't figured all the ins and outs, so I have to direct you to google.

It still suffers from the gamepads are expensive when you buy 4 of them problem.  Hopefully you can set up a workshop at the next Pinball Jam and show how its done.

You need a kade and the xbox to usb cable.  Use a rope or string to measure how much you need to connect wherever you are mounting the xbox.  Get a Xbox to usb cable for each kade.  Get the "2ft" length and  buy a 3ft USB extender cable from amazon or order the custom length.

I have been testing HDMI from the Original xBox with great success using this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Component-RGB-Ypbpr-R-L-to-HDMI-Converter-Scaler-compatible-with-v1-4-devices-/261429735622?pt=US_Video_Cables_Adapters&hash=item3cde6d30c6

Retroarch is on the 360 but the GPU access is lacking so PSX and N64 are not up tp snuff.  The Retroarch UI front end is meh.  I think Android is shaping up nicely but still isn't fully baked.

remote power = put a little screw to wedge the power button in and remote the power strip as needed.

KADEs= Get a DIY kit or a minumus alone and use the the free/ open source software if they cost too much.  Making the xBox to USB cables is easy too.

For VGA, use a frosty Bios (doens't work on 1.6) and one of these:
http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_id=102&cp_id=10235&cs_id=1023503&p_id=6025&seq=1&format=2
There is a frosty boot disk that one can use to temporarily enable VGA out.

Got to watch those goodwill auctions, it looks like each store sets the weight value on the item for shipping.  Most of those deals look great until you go checkout.  :(

I have been away for a week with work.

Got home tonight and removed the MO BO in my xbox (v1.0) and bridged the 2 points reqiored to do a TSOP flash.  I did not do the 3rd bridge as I am 99% sure I dont have a SHARP chip, however, I do not know which chip is the TSOP chip...none of the chips I see on the board say SHARP

Soooooo

after I was done, I tried to flash my TSOP...and I got this error.....did I not bridge the 2 points on the MO BO correctly and thus my chip is still write protected?

Why do you care?  You have a X-arcade.  Just buy the 2-in 1 adapter.  ::)

Then buy two adapters.  I have, and tested it with The Simpsons and it works very well.  If you have a spare ps3 you can use the additional port.  You might as well use hardware you have laying around for your project.

  • Why buy it when you can BUILD it!

in a effort to keep this thread ON TRACK ;)

here is some closure...

I decided to try flashing with a different "build" from the list... I used.."Flash MOD or v1.0-1.5 TSOP w/X2-4981.06 *FC*"

low and behold...the chip re writes and the xbox powers off.

I turn the xbox back on to see this...

looks like I am good to go :)

Then buy two adapters.  I have, and tested it with The Simpsons and it works very well.  If you have a spare ps3 you can use the additional port.  You might as well use hardware you have laying around for your project.

An additional X-Arcade encoder, wiring, and adapters will cost far more than other solutions.

After rereading this thread, the last pic shows the tsop flash, but there is an executer 2 logo at the bottom.

That tells me it is chip modded not soft modded.  Which brings me to the obvious question.

Can you tsop a hard modded Xbox and then remove the chip?

If it is a tsop able model, yes.  I think you have to soft mod, remove or disable the chip,  and  boot off the memory you plan on flashing but I'm not 100% sure.  It has been a few years.

Thanks.  The executer logo is from the tsop of the OP.  So I disabled the xecuter 2 and ran the xbox from its original state which gave me a error 5.  After locking the HDD via the mod chip the xbox booted normally into msdash.  So I can run the soft mod, solder the two areas on the board, and tsop using the same bios as the mod chip.  And it should work with the 400gb HDD.  Cool.
