mame cpu cache performance question
« on: March 03, 2014, 06:52:48 pm »
hi does anyone know if (and sorry if this is a dumb question, i have no idea :)), just say for example, you had 2 identical cpu's, one had 3mb L2 cache on it, the other had 6mb L2 cache on it.. would you get better performance in mame with the 6mb cache cpu? and if so, what are we talking?

I'm not sure what the difference would be on a "modern" CPU, but I suspect the difference would be pretty small ~5%.

Here is an article that talks about this, albeit for older CPUs.

thanks for the response i had a read around and it does seem that cpu architecture and clock speed are what determines mame performance and cpu L2 cache size doesnt really affect things (but dont quote me on that :))
