« on: February 20, 2014, 12:18:58 pm »
hi i was wondering if someone could suggest a graphics card for playing ps1 and ps2 and xbox games have had trouble with petesopen gl2 on epsxe emulator with my current set up and was wanting to add a card.
asus z87-a mb
intel i7-4770k
windows 7 64bit
650 watt power supply
16gb ram
z87 chipset
1tb for OS and 2-4tb for roms (now and future)
supports amd and nvidia quad
i would rather not spend 700 on a card but am building new cabinet to emulate as many systems as i can put together, thanks

thats close to my PC specs, why skimp on the power supply?

I use a GTX560 video card (was under 300 when I bought it a while ago) and it runs all the PS2 games just peachy.  Im not aware of an xbox emulator that runs anything well. What one are you trying?

welp it'll be ok if you dont run a lot of fans, hard drives, and more than 1 GPU. I dont know anyone who doesnt get a 750 or higher. Is it at least modular?

no its a thermaltake sp-650 bronze crossfire ready, i have 3 hard drives(1-1tb,2-4tb), dvd drive, 3 fans(power supply, cpu and tower) and will add 1 graphics card was told this would handle when purchaaed but had doubts from the start especially with higher end gpu. for the overall cost might just buy 1000w to replace and have enough for future 2nd card possibly, thanks

As far as I know, there isn't a viable XBox emulator...  Last I heard there was one that played some system demos and that was bout it.

As far as a video card, I have a 550Ti in my Media PC, and not only does it display large 1080p files without a hiccup, but also ePSXe with the options turned up, and PCSX2 without a problem (at least that I've seen yet).  Heck, even tried some Wii games with Dolphin and seems to work well.

As far as the 650 Watt power supply, it always seems like people want to go for the high watt supplies but frankly it's just not that necessary as long as you get a *quality* supply.  You purchased a quality supply, your 650 will be just fine on that rig.

Lastly, one thing you might want to check into is the new Geforce 750 series...  The highest end one (750Ti 2GB if I'm not mistaken) is $149 and will be excellent for what you are doing I bet.  It's not a high end GPU, more of a middle-of-the-road card but it's a really solid price point for good performance at a low power cost (takes less juice than previous cards, produces less heat, runs quieter as a result).

Thanks I will look at that one and wanted to look at a comparable amd, basically if price is right and works for all mame and newer consoles I'll be happy. Glad to hear about power supply wasn't familiar with it but I figured it would be ok as long as I didn't buy a gpu that eats up 350 watts, not a big PC gamer just want a newer arcade cabinet with More options than my other 10 year old biostar and amd Athlon setup, thanks for the advice guys
