mess emulation
« on: February 19, 2014, 03:26:50 pm »
hello i have been trying to get mess to run several systems mainly atari-5200 & 7800, coleco, intellivision, jaguar, ST and cant get anything to recognize to setup. i have done the ini. folder as with mame which was simple to set up but when i point mess towards console and roms it wont recognize anything. i had it set before to point toward the folder with consoles and it showed them but had no games. do u have to have a certain folder with just the consoles u want to emulate and then do something different with the roms for those consoles, ive tried several ways for weeks off and on with no luck. thanks

don't bother with the jaguar / ST, neither work to any degree worth using (I don't think the ST can even start a disk)

The recommended way to use it for the rest is with the 'Software List' ROMs..  These are closer to how a MAME set works than other console emulators, and allows us to use real dumps (that other emulators won't load) where possible.

Your best best for support is bannister.org, not here tho.

MESS is best used from the command-line or via a front-end.  The internal menu isn't very capable.

I know this is a little off topic, but what exactly do you want to play on the Jaguar?

tempest 2000?
"Tempest 2000 was ported to PC's running DOS, Apple Macintosh, Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation game consoles, the latter version with several changes to the design under the name of Tempest X3. Interplay released a Microsoft Windows version later."

ahhhh Alien VS Predator seems to be the "top game" from what I remember, I just didnt understand him wanting to play a good at the time FPS game . The Missile Command remake  seems popular, I know Raiden was ported, and I faintly remember playing and liking Ultra Vortex at a FunCoLand.  :dunno

Have you looked at avp recently? No way is anybody playing that for fun. Maybe he used to own a jaguar and its just a case of nostalgia.

What is the command line you are using?  You have to use CL switches to tell MESS things like which emulation to run, whether it's a cart/disk/etc ROM.
