Utility for rotation
« on: December 01, 2003, 11:52:14 am »
I'd like to know a way to rotate windows 98 becase I'm using a rotated TV with my ArcadeVGA. There's an utility included in the driver config which works fine, but MAME's rotated games don't load when rotation is enabled with this utility. There must be some kind of conflict there. I would also need that the mouse axes are rotated when rotation is enabled.

Try forcing a resolution when loading mame, either using MAME.INI or commandline eg 'mame gamename -r 640x480'.

This *may* help...

For just in mame run -autorol or -autoror.

For outside of mame pivot pro is ok, but it will take up resources.

The arcadevga is based off a an ati radeon.  Can it use the newer drivers that have hardware rotation?

I have tried Pivot Pro 7 and it works fine but have some issues. First of all, although the mouse axes are correctly rotated, the mouse pointer doesn't always have the right orientation. Sencondly: what's worse, this program has reduced the amount of res modes available. I have not tried it wth my ArcadeVGA yet but with my Geforce the max res mode I can get is 1280 when the program is installed. Is it a bug or am I doing something wrong? When I uninstall Privot I get all my res modes back, up to 1600.

The "utility" is called a new video card that supports hardware rotation.  :)  All the software solutions have limitations.

Howard,

What is the cheapest-via-ebay card that does display rotation and has a TV out? I've been trying to get a solid answer about this and I don't want overkill.
