Best Way To Mount CP Onto Base
« on: February 09, 2014, 10:29:18 pm »
Hi everyone!  I am new to building a control panel and cabinets, but I am looking for advice on what would be the best method to mount my CP onto a base on my cabinet.  Currently I have already built the cp, but I am planning on how to mount it within Sketchup, and I have attached a couple of pictures to show what I am looking to improve upon.

Right now I have planned to put a 2x4 in the cabinet, then screw a piece of MDF as the base for the CP, and then have latches installed on the 2x4 so that I can secure the CP when mounted.  My issue is that the edges of the bottom of the CP and the piece of MDF will show in the front, and wanted to know if there is a good way to hide the edges, or if there is a better way to mount the CP to the cabinet so that I wouldn't need the MDF as a base.  I was thinking of possibly screwing the sides of the cabinet into the CP box to hold it up, but I wanted to make the CP easily removable if I had to take it apart for moving purposes.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I can't really visualize the "edge" showing you're talking about but when I lock CP's onto a cab I use Bolts ant T-Nuts.

So inside the control panel, I use 3/4 MDF base with three sports for a 1x4 square of hardwood.  Then on the inside of the cab I use a 2x2 rectangle of Hardwood on the sides and middle where the t-Nut is on the bottom.  Then I use a bolt with a big washer to go through the CP and into the three rectangles below and then screw them in.  All wood is glued/Screwed/Nailed into their respective areas.  None are seen when the CP is closed.

I'll see if I have any pictures available.
