Little Casino bartop
« on: January 19, 2014, 02:36:20 pm »
I bought this ~10 years ago at an auction for $2.17.  I jiggled the wires, got it working, and dumped it on my uncle.  A few years ago, the screen got so dim I just ripped out the color filter that had gotten cloudy.  That got it working "good enough" for awhile but it had eventually gotten very fuzzy and hard to distinguish anything.

After yet another buyer at $10 flaked out on him, I got it back.

Pop it open, check out that high tech chassis and neck board.

Dredge out the CRT rejuvenator I can't get rid of.  Luckily the B&K adapter was documented so I was able to simulate it with clip leads.

And... sigh... after a brief zap, the monitor got sharp and clear.  I reflowed some connector headers, added a jumper wire for one button, and the damned thing works.

That is an excellent point.  The cabinet is a nice form factor and could be cleaned up into fairly nice condition.  The game just isn't much fun and it's really pokey.

Somewhere or another I've got a composite NTSC -> RGB board laying around (provided I haven't thrown it away... which is very likely).

More fodder for the "why do I bother" pile.

Swiped this image of Ebay.  Shows the color filters mine is mostly lacking.

Nice thing about a 12" CRT is that standard letter paper is more than big enough.

Printed out a transparency, just kind of eyeballing the dimensions.  Will hold up the CRT and trim as needed.

I've also attached it though anyone should be able to easily recreate this.

You bother because there aren't very many of these around anymore and why just trash it? Someone did get some fun out of this at one time and someone will again someday. If you ever wanna sell it, I would proudly display that in my arcade. I love this old tech crap.  :P

"downloaded 0 times" man ain't that the truth.

Maybe I'll slap a 60 in 1 in this thing.  I've played MsPac on a monochrome monitor before.  It was... doable.

So, it turns out that transparency is pretty much right on the money.

Here's the tube before.  The green was in pretty good shape, so I trimmed that off my print out.

High tech scotch tape installation

Damn near as ugly as factory!

And under a pinball machine it goes until someone drives down from Dallas to get it.
