Help Hacking original XBOX analog controls
« on: January 19, 2014, 01:16:04 am »
Ok, I've seen numerous pics and guides online showing where to solder wires on a Duke controller for all the buttons. But I need to remove the pots for the 2 triggers and the left thumb stick, and wire them into my Racing cabinet wheel pot and pedal pots. Any suggestions on how to do this without ruining the board? I assume I can't just solder another pot in parallel with the existing pots because the resistance will have two factors instead of only one. Has anyone tried? I've done this successfully with a Mad Catz MC2 driving wheel and pedals, since the wires are already easy to connect to. But the thing fried in a couple of weeks of usage. So now I'm trying to just connect the buttons and cabinet pots to a standard controller directly to the board :badmood:.

you need 10k wheel pot and a 10k pot on each pedal but it is possible.

most usb flight stick's, wheels, pedals and alike use 10k where the old stuff like gameport all used a 100k

dont mix them or pair them.

if you match them up correctly you will get perfect results like it was made to be.

check out my recent post in my older thread for the flight sticks and throttle setup's as te same would apply to wheels and pedals.

as long as the pot shaft's match the shaft of the pot you are replaceing you just wire the 3 signals top to bottom of the pot to the same three holes on the controller pcb where the stock 10k pot was.

there is two 2 10k pots on each thumbstick left/right and up/down

dimension's of the actual pot mean nothing it is the 10k rating and matching the shaft type and diameter that means anything wich is easy with alot of them already on ebay now for the most part.

my thrustmaster pots and replacements are extreme for thier price but most stuff use's the same one's on ebay for like 2-3 bucks a peice from china. korea or alike.

there is no reason it would not work as long as your pot is 10k becuase that is what the controller pcb use's and expects so as long as it is the same function pot on 10k it's good to go.

there is two pots on the leftstick and two pot on my flight stick combine 10k flight stick pot wires to xbox or ps2 controllers analog spots and now I have a full blown scale mil. spec flight stick on pretty much any console I want that use's a thumbstick really.

but that is all that is too it.

same for throttle just use one pot for the handle and one pot spot on the controller even a trigger spot is fine lol.
