It's just such a big space beneath the monitor... If you can't move the monitor then the only other thing to do is to make that area useful.  If you could add another monitor down there that displays instruction cards that would be cool, but then again it's more $$$ and will require a lot of graphics work making the cards...

One other thing you can do with the space would be to throw a couple more speakers down there with some nice speaker grills...

The other issue, I think, is that with a bezel that big, it has the unintended visual effect of making that monitor look smaller than it probably is.

At the very least, move the monitor to the center. This was a pretty cool build, I think it would have made a better bartop (I can't get with these slim cabs). The gold T-Molding is awesome.

I have been curious about doing a bartop, maybe I will steal your theme  :lol

I've had criticism dealt to me regarding monitor size.

Still not the best fit but slightly better.

I have another monitor that I am considering putting in there.  So this is where I am until I decide to move it.

I say this so you know I'm coming from a good place before I post my edit;  You have too much space in your bezel.

Great build, but I have to agree on the monitor comments.

That said...  I'd like to put my money where my mouth is.  I have a spare 21" (or close to it) 4:3 LCD that you can HAVE if you pay for shipping.  This project NEEDS it.

Offer stands, just shoot me a PM.

How about a mini monitor underneath that shows the controls or marquee of the game being played?

this cab probably needs at least a 24-26" monitor centered.
your cab does look cool and if your happy with it than ---fudgesicle--- what everyone else thinks but they do offer good advice.
why cant you centre the monitor? i know its a bit of a pain but its only a weekends work

Listen to the man. He's got the right idea, and the right monitor for the job. You kill two birds with one stone - you get the classic (scan)lines of the CRT (heh) and a better look overall for your cab.

It's taking a lot for me not to offer up the coin to have him ship ME the monitor... ...although I struggle to figure out if it'll fit into one of my bartop kits.

;)

To elaborate on my previous suggestion, here is a picture. Get like a $20 car backup LCD monitor just to display the controls. Cheap solution, especially if you don't want to touch your current monitor.

Buy a small portable DVD player, mount it in the empty space and have the Goonies movie looping in repeat play on it....

@DeLuSioNal29 Thank you for the offer. Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way to just redo the bezel its glued and domino/biscuit joined so it would be an undertaking. My good buddy loves it the way it is and doesn't want to put any more money in it. I may take you up on that offer for my build if it still stands, just not 100% sure what I want to do just yet I am still working somethings out. Either way I appreciate everyone's humor in the bezel and glad some of you like the build or aspects of it. Overall I'm pretty happy with it.  :)

I know this isn't fixing the "issue" with the monitor placement or using a 16:9 monitor, but trying to redo it would be a huge undertaking that I don't have the time for nor did my buddy want to me do. The whole idea was to put bezel artwork anyways. I thought I would share the results. Please excuse the crummy cellphone pictures there were some major artifacts and I couldn't the exposure of the marquee to display properly so it's showing washed out. Thanks Everyone!  :)

Nice job on the build. I was searching for ideas for a Goonies bartop I'm building and found yours. Can a mod or anyone have Lucian045 PM me? I'd like him to mod off the CP he made for you and have him prinnt some graphics for me, for my bartop. If he's still in the printing business.

thanks to whomever sees this, I have a new account and thus I cannot PM.
