Artwork removal
« on: January 17, 2014, 02:14:49 pm »
I have an old generic cabinet and I'm thinking about perhaps removing the original artwork from the bezel and marquee and replacing it with something else. They are both glass with printing on the back. Can this usually be removed with a glass scraper, without damaging the glass?

a single edged razor blade will work just fine.

but, before you go all scrape crazy, if it's the painted/silkscreened art in the glass, is it in good condition? perhaps someone would purchase it if it's in decent shape. if it's all peeling and flaked off, then go nuts.

It's actually quite nice, so I'm currently considering what I should do. The marquee, bezel and cp have all had matching artwork, but I've rebuilt the cp so it's currently lacking artwork.

I've scanned the old cp artwork and reworked it, and it turned out quite nice, so I'm probably better off just reapplying the cp artwork... The artwork is classic retro generic style like this, and I actually kind of like it:

it's fairly modern looking, maybe incorporate it into a redesigned marquee (if you are going the MAME route.)

don't forget, once the glass is on and you have an attract screen playing on the monitor, people aren't going to be nitpicking a couple of chips in the bezel art, they are going to be gushing over your game collection on there.

you are free to do as you like, but if I was here, i'd leave it and incorporate it into the design. It's not bad at all. At least it's not hot pink and electric blue like lots of those cabinet art at the end of the 90's where.

Yeah, I decided to go for new cp artwork only. Spent some hours reworking the scanned artwork, so it would be a waste of time not to use it. :)
