Revellutions: a different sort of review from me (",)
« on: January 10, 2014, 11:01:32 pm »

First of all- I took marketing  ;D

My god-son and his dad came over today. They brought along his new model car he got for christmas to blast around my car park since they don't have a lot of space where they live.

His is the Chiller. I am always concerned with the durability of 'kiddies' radio controlled cars (Infrared in this case). I can tell you that these seem to be well put together and take a lot of punishment. That bumper up the front absorbs a hell of a lot of the impact. It fairly scoots along too. After a while, I noticed it had a hi/lo gear setting. We set it on high and it was even faster. Too fast for my godson. It isn't digital proportional, but for the kids, that isn't too much of a concern. Besides, they were able to do aerobatics in non-proportional model planes back in the 60's!

This isn't as cheap as your average Five Swans brand cheapie, but it really looks durable and thus I reckon would be much better value for money. The only downside seems to be that apparently the transmitter batteries don't last all that long, so maybe rechargables for that (4 x AA). The car itself runs for quite a while and you can buy spare batteries.

Why do you say it's Infrared when the spec sheet says 2.4ghz?  Sorry, just curious.

Yeah, I guess I'm wrong about that. No aerials, so first thing I thought  was it's Infrared!

Looks pretty cool, I've always liked RC cars. Never got into anything serious though. Picked up a car with 4 wheel drive a few years ago and that is a blast. it's slower but can drive up anything.

Yeah, this one is aimed roughly at the 5-10 yo range. Like I say, for a 'kiddies' RC car, it's not cheap (but cheaper than a 'grown ups' RC car), but it is very well built. I also found that there are a few basic spare parts available, like bumper bars, shocks and tyres. You definitely wouldn't find that with Golden Five Swans type brands...

I actually own a Hobby Store.  If you're ever in the Bay Area of California and want to check out a giant selection of Radio Control, drop me a line.  It's 90% of what we sell and do in the store - Cars, Trucks, Airplanes, Boats, Heli's and now Quads/Drones.  All cool stuff.

danny_galaga - that's great to hear you guys had a good experience with the Revellutions stuff.  The parent company that now owns Revell is trying very hard to branch out from just the plastic models side and really leverage that brand name of Revell on new products like this RC line.  They put out a little micro quad this holiday season that was just killer and only $40.
