Error installing video card: "Setup did not find a driver compatible..."

OS: XP 32-bit
Card: VisionTek 4350

I previously had the latest drivers installed that came with the card.
I then uninstalled them the best I know how.
The card now shows in Device Manager as Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
I ran Setup in VMMAKER and got the error: Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Setup will now exit.

The problem is, I do not know what is being explained in these threads. I know my way around a computer, but this is over my head. Can someone assist me with step-by-step instructions?

Replace the files inside your driver installation folder with the ones in the attachment. Place each file inside the right folder!

Then try installing again.

This time it installed, but it won't start after reboot -- the same as the other guy's. Is VisionTek just a bad brand? Can you recommend an affordable card (brand apparently is important) that is guaranteed to work? Doesn't have to be a 4350. Just a card with similar specs that won't give me headaches. I'll be playing shmups on it. Thanks.

May you clarify how it won't start? Is it a blue screen?

Well, all Asus HD 4350 have always worked, and many others. It's just a few brands like this Visiontek that may work different in some way.

Also, the X300/X600 series all work fine.

Device Manager can see it and displays its proper name, but it has the yellow (!) and says This device cannot start.

This probably means the hardware is not compatible. Before you give up, I assume the card came with its own drivers which should work. May you attach here the .inf file from those drivers? You can get it by running the Setup program, so the package contents are uncompressed in c:\ATI\... then cancel the installation and look for the file inside this folder, it will probably be inside a folder named ...\XP_INF\ or similar. This will provide more information about the particular chipset inside your card.

Ok, I've confirmed that's an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330. The "mobility" models need special drivers. There's a chance that CRT Emudriver will work if you modify the driver files before installing them with the Mobility Modder, found here:

Use the original files, before not the modified ones I passed you yesterday.
