Volume hotkeys?
« on: November 27, 2003, 07:54:14 pm »
Hey guys, i've been finding it rather annoying to go inside my cabinet and turn a dial everytime I want to adjust the volume for a game.

I decided i'll set up a shift key through the IPAC to turn the volume up and down, but the problem is I need a hotkey to assign it to...

Is there any program out there which can adjust the master volume level of windows (so everything is affected) with button presses? I'm sure there must be something out there...

If not, what are the MAME default keys to do this?

Default is tilde (`) to bring up the volume control in mame.  Then you use the p1 joystick left and right to turn it up or down.  The default volume in MAME is the max volume.

A quick googlel search gives me this:

http://www.audio-ware.com/utilities-plug-ins/zvolume-pro.htm

Its a replacement for the windows volume control.  You can use your mouse or 'extensive hotkey support' it says....

Yeah I saw that already, but thanks for the help :D

The problem is with that, and a few others I found is that they're pay programs that have options far outside the needs of my cabinet, and I can't justify paying that amount of money simply to lower/upper the volume, and neglect all the other features those proggies provide.

If there's any freeware solution, i'd like to hear it. My old keyboard used to do it via it's drivers (It had a volume knob on it.) I'm sure there's some sort of hotkey variant out there somewhere...

I use a program called "Hotkeyboard" which enables you to asign keystrokes to macro functions.  I use it to send an "alt+f4" to close any open window, so i have a button on my cab that can close any program.   It has the ability to change the sound volume in windows, although I havn't used this function myself.

You can download a free version of it here: http://www.hot-keyboard.com/  (The free version has everything you'd need.)
