Help with my sideart
« on: November 26, 2003, 06:37:02 pm »
This is the artwork I want to put on my arcade.

I got photoshop 7 to try to fix it up, but I don't have a clue what I'm doing.  Only thing I can do with photoshop is put afro's and bushy beards on people, aw yea I'm cool 8).

Well, I was hoping somone here knows a bit more than I do and is also willing to give me a hand.  What I'm wanting is the lines to be sharp and the colors solid or more painting-like.

If you feel like giving it a try the picture is here:

If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

Frostillicus posted a tutorial on how to vectorize raster art.  I downloaded it and messed around, it isn't that hard.

If you converted this to vector you could color and size it to your heart's content.

Funky.  :D

I'll vectorize it for you.  Or at least do a rough version.  Just give me a few hours.

Here ya go.

Illustrator format: smurf.ai

SVG (gzipped) format: smurf.svgz

Note that I used Sodipodi so the native format is SVG.  The Illustrator version looks OK to me but look it over yourself to be sure.

If you want that blurry shadow effect on the original then you can either add it in Illustrator or using Photoshop/Gimp.   I don't think SVG supports those effects so I didn't add it.
