Interesting.  (can't get it to work on my work computer)
I wonder if this is related to the recent discussions about MAME licensing.

https://archive.org/details/consolelivingroom

It says there is no sound, but it will be added later.

Especially when the whole 42gb of .151 is up there to grab.  :laugh2:

Seeing that on a government site is completely hilarious.  :laugh2:

Archive.org isn't a government website

It's still funny, though.

Lets watch this very closely and see if this sets a precedent.

If there is no takedown, from Nintendoh or whoever then it might just be the beginning of the end of fair use and copyright.

Nobody in their right mind would download such a large file without attracting attention to themselves.  It is a direct download and not a torrent, so the down loader would be painting a large target on their back, which would be easily traced.  There again seeing that 30K people are not heeding the warning on the site sets the stage.

Also I would think the mamedevs collective bottoms must be puckering up with this news.  Nobody wants to see the project go away, but if this hits main stream TV, it would shake and tighten copyright laws further with dreaded litigation.

The only mamedev that has his name splashed on it is our very own Haze.  :laugh2:

fwiw I've made my position regarding this clear

it has to be said archive.org have some massive balls in doing this, although it's not new, they've been doing it for about 6 months now (but it's only just hit mainstream news sites)

I was wrong when I said they've not got the CHDs tho, they have a 0.149 set for MAME divided into several large downloads, in addition to a number of the MESS CHDs and other MESS software lists, and a large number of the No-Intro sets.

I actually worry more about archive.org, it's a very important internet resource, and I'd hate to see them with legal bills they can't pay. I have to say I find the decision an odd one because typically with the pages they've archived it's the big file downloads that have been missing (as well as any interactive / streamed server-side content etc. obviously)

Actually the rabbit hole goes far deeper if you look.  The IA has the exemption of the DMCA, its downloaders do not, nor the conspirators.

Let us watch the show, regardless, and see how this tragedy unfolds

It is a direct download and not a torrent, so the down loader would be painting a large target on their back, which would be easily traced.

If you're worried about attracting the attention there's also a torrent link right on the same download page toward the bottom so you can get it by torrent also rather than direct download !

And nice thing about their 0.149 CHD set is you can download a single file you want by going into the archive list of files ( by clicking here where it says "To browse the collection online, click here."  and selecting the specific chd you want rather than having to download the entire set or partial alphabetical set.

Meh, companies won't do a thing about this.  I've personally e-mailed legal contact addresses at various places with links to Ebay auctions, Amazon, New Egg, etc and not a single one has gotten a response or a take down.

Do have to love it when some resident forum moron will say something like "NAMCO is nuts about preserving their IP!" No, in fact, they aren't.  It was some jackass in Austin that claimed he had sole authority to reproduce the artwork and sent a bunch of e-mails out 10 years ago.  He's never proven a damn thing or actually done anything besides shut down a few auctions.

They've added a bunch more games vis DosBox.  About 2,400 more games added.

Doesn't work in mac 10.10.1 and Safari 8.0.2.

Surprised this thread hasn't hit the ban hammer yet. :applaud:

FAQ shows Chrome and Firefox as supported browsers.

Not sure why this thread would get Post Hell'd.  What am I missing?

I dunno, go look at the Atari 2600 page...

In the section where the Atari-made carts are:

"These cartridges are currently viewable only as image and video presentations at the request of Atari, Inc."

  • No. It's your top score on Pole Position.

Hell the way the Atari controller works sometimes I thought said cartridges were just videos.
