I知 a little embarrassed to ask this
« on: December 23, 2013, 07:03:48 pm »
I知 not new to emulators or firewalls, but I am new to Comodo痴 free firewall as I just installed it. The problem I知 having is whenever I load up MAMEUI64 0.149, this error message from Comodo pops up.

I've clicked the "always trust this file or package tab" and yet it still pops up. I've also added the mameui64 executable to the "trusted files" list in Comodo, but again the message still shows up. Mame always loads just fine after I click "allow", but this message is just a nuisance I'd like to get rid of. I'm sure this has to be a simple fix so any advice would really be appreciated.

find an AV package that isn't an over-intrusive piece of control freaky junk.

but yes, as somebody else has already said, I'm sure there will come a day when you can only run signed and approved software and such messages won't be warnings as part of a ridiculous AV package, but actual blocks against running things at all built into the hardware.

imho software firewalls other than the built in windows firewall, which is minimally intrusive, are a waste of time or money.

Get the free version of AVG.... then surf safe and smart.  If you would happen to get a virus or some malware then download the appropriate tools to remove it.  Keeping your computer safe has a lot more to do with being smart about using your computer than anything else.

I switched from AVG Free to Microsoft Security Essentials.  Seems to work better for me....    but this could totally be one of those personal preference things.

I've had a few viruses (at work) that Trend (enterprise level payware) wouldn't find and Microsoft Security Essentials would (don't get into the while licensing thing...  I didn't do it)

MSE would be my #2 pick.  The reason I don't recommend it is because it's real time protection isn't as good.  Of course different ones catch different types of malware/viri better but in my experience at least it works better.  Plus it's an all in one package so no need to download a resident shield AND an anti-virus ect....

But in general, the free ones work as good or better than the paid ones.  You've just gotta be careful which ones you use.

I've done that, but it still pops up.

FYI Microsoft Security Essentials Misses 39% of Malware

Without taking the thread seriously off-topic, I have to take any comparison test which only tested 6 Enterprise-level AV packages with a grain of salt. I manage 1300 PCs...we switched from ESET NOD32 (which, although not tested in the link provided, is generally considered one of the more sensitive AV packages) to SCEP, and there's no doubt SCEP is finding more malware. I'm not saying it's the better program, just that it's perfectly capable of doing its job. AVG is certainly a good option as well.
