Enders Game
« on: December 23, 2013, 04:18:00 am »

Has no one reviewed this here yet? Oh all right, I will  ;D

Saw it yesterday. While I didn't feel totally immersed (I can't get my head around a 12 year old kid having command skills) I did enjoy the story. I have never read the book, so while I suspected what was happening, it was still fresh when the time came in that regard for me. Although HArrison Ford must be the most wooden actor ever to come out of Hollywood, how can we not love him! Perfect role for him. The last 5 or ten minutes seemed rater condensed, rather like there should be another book or summink. Is it a series of books?

4/5

Quote
my score for recent movies you may have seen:

5/5 - The Way Back, The Kings Speech, Michael Clayton, In Bruges, Gran Torino, Mary and Max, Moonrise Kingdom

4.5/5 - Taken, Iron Man, Reign Over Me, Watchmen, The girl with the dragon tattoo

4/5 - Enders Game, True Grit, Traitor, Bedtime Stories, Sunshine, pineapple express

3.5/5 - 300, Max Payne, You dont mess with the Zohan, Yes Man

3/5 - That new Indiana Jones flick, Disturbia, That new TMNT flick,

2.5/5 - Angels and Demons, The Hangover III, Only God Forgives

2/5 - The Love Guru. Note: My 2 is probably someone elses 1. Just leaving room for worse!

Yeah its a series of books--I was looking forward to this one as well as I read the books years ago.  I seem to recall a majority of the book was about turning the kid into a "general" at the battle school and not so much focus on who the bad guys were..

And I agree on Harrison--I thought he was pretty animated in star wars and Indy, but he just sort of got tired after that--maybe its the roles he picked..
its better to not post and be thought a fool, then to whip out your keyboard and remove all doubt...

They did a pretty good job, I thought.  Of course, kinda like the Hunger Games movies, all the kids were too old and fat for the part.

The book has an unusual structure, and then I listened to some author comments where he explains he was primarily a play writer at the time and it made a lot more sense.  An awful lot of sitting in rooms and talking.

I liked it as well.  They did a particularly good job with the battle room.

We must have listened to the same audio book.  I didn't put him being a playwright together with the way the book was structured but have to agree with you.

Yeah, it was surely the same audio book.

Also had to laugh that he stresses no love interest and how the movie is going to be about Ender's friendship with Bean.

Bean gets two minutes of screen time and the movie ending has some random girl in love with Ender.  Oh well.

I laughed about that as well.  I think he was referring to an earlier plan for the movie though as I'm pretty sure he recorded that afterword at the turn of the century.

Yeah, it was surely the same audio book.

I don't think Ford was EVER accused of being animated  ;D  But he has always been awesome, must be down to the roles that came his way...
