Casino Games
« on: December 21, 2013, 07:24:49 pm »
Does anyone around here visit the casinos once in a while?

I don't play the gambling games. I grew up just an hour's drive from a bunch of casinos and I figured out a long time ago the House rules. My wife likes to go because they have some reasonable eats. Not exactly five star dining (regardless of whatever they may rate themselves at). Then we'll give the kids $20 and cut them loose in the arcades for a few hours. I'm not entirely sure how, but my son always manages to turn the $20 into about $30 every time we go.  ???

Anyhow, I noticed that the casino floor has a growing number of gambling licenses that are... kind of surprising to see.

They don't allow cameras so no photos, sorry. I'm not interested in getting my legs broken. But from I can recall there are now gambling machines themed around,
Ghostbusters
Judge Judy/Batman (This one seems to be changed around about once a week? I'm not sure if it's two different machines or what.)
Who wants to be a Millionaire?
Wheel of Fortune
Family Guy
Back to the Future
Wizard of Oz
Plants vs Zombies
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
Lord of the Rings

I've heard from a few friends that brands such as Atari, Star Wars, KISS, Superman, Godzilla were also spotted elsewhere in the wild and I'm sure there are countless others as well.

Google turns up a few of the more notable IPs.

I just don't recall ever seeing any of the IPs on gambling machines 20 years ago.

20 years ago, the world was a very different place.  Today, literally EVERYTHING is about IP licensing and marketing.  Hell, I'm surprised they're not selling Duck Dynasty toilet paper.

I just went to the casino as part of a company function, and you are right, there are several licensed titles, but I noticed more origional IP than licensed. Maybe 1:2 or 1:3 ratio.

They pepper casinos with the big premium machines to help draw 35-50 somethings. Ten years ago, instead of 80's brands like Ghostbusters, they had machines based on Munsters, Betty Boop, etc that older people remember. It was no different IMO.

PBJ's right.

(And remember to drink your ovaltine.)
NO MORE!!

They also started using interactive controllers like a fishing pole in one of their flash based casino games.  I am still waiting to see a doney kong casino game but I am sure it will be in the works somewhere in the world.  I'd take pictures of it but casino staff actively discourage photography of their machines.

This is it:

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Maybe. There was a gap from about 1996 to about 2006ish where I frequented a casino only twice the entire time. Maybe they had IP machines. Before 1996 it was at least once a month or as often as every weekend.

The thing about Betty was she was never really intended for children. The pre-Scooby Doo era tended to have toons that were very adult oriented. Watch early episodes of Betty, Popeye or even a later show like Johnny Quest and it's painfully adult.

Regardless, I don't recall any old machines with that kind of IP. Or maybe I'm paying more attention because I recently started building cabs?

I dunno.
