My folks gave me theirs to use as a router. I used it for inlaying my trackball mount and inlaying my under mounted joysticks. This was my first experience routing and while I wasn't very accurate on the edges, it worked fine. I believe one set comes with a 1/4" straight bit, which quickly wore out. They sell a 3 piece straight bit set that worked much better. I also used it to cut edges and holes in plexi, which worked well also.
In the end, it does the job, but it's not awesome as far as straight edges are concerned. If you're going to do a lot of routing in the future, I'd say get a full on router. Otherwise, the Trio can do a lot of other things too (has nice edge sanding capabilities), so perhaps the versatility is worth it to you. I hope this helps.
