Digital Photo Frames that are EASY to upload to.
« on: December 06, 2013, 06:17:33 pm »
Ok so I'm searching for advice on yet another xmas gift.

My mom's digital frame is wigging out after all of these years so it's time to upgrade.  Here's the thing.... she isn't very technically literate.  The old frame hasn't had it's images updated in years because I'm the only one in the family capable of doing so apparently and even though I can do it... searching through pics and adding them to a sd card every time somebody gets happy with the camera is a pain in the butt.

I know about wireless sd cards... I don't know how well they actually work.  The other thing is getting the photos off of the camera.  I believe her latest camera is a Olympus, and they use proprietary sd cards which need an adaptor.... regardless they are micro sd cards I believe.

So putting the frame aside for a moment (unless some of the tech is built in).  Is there any solution out there where I can set it up to where photos are uploaded automatically from the camera to the frame?  Or at the very least some easier method to select photos and send them to the frame.

Does she have wireless internet connectivity ? IF so you might check into the Pix-Star products - they can be setup over the internet and pics uploaded by sending them through e-mail to the frames email account.
Figure with one of them you could handle updating the pics from your home for her once it is setup by having family members send you a digital pic and then E-mailing it to the frame over the net.

Here's an article about one of the newer features that lets multiple frames be setup to update over a single account so every family member could have one and they could all be updated with the same photos in one shot. It's a good suggestion, but I have a hard time playing 200 bucks for a picture frame when you can get a nice, 10 incher for well under 100 bucks.

I've been looking at the wifi sd cards, but there seems to be a lot of confusion about them.  What I need is one that just shows up as a network share and has reading AND writing functionality.  Then I could figure out the rest via drop box or something similar.  Of course if one is available that'll automate more of the process, even better.

Kodak pulse, great frame.

Web page to manage the frames remotely, simple as sending a email to the account with the pic attached to get a pic on it.

We use them for the kids grandparents.

Pm me for custom cnc needs...

Kodak went out of business and the pulse is no longer available... as did pandigital, the other company that did wireless frames.

I think pix-star is all that's left.... I found one of their 10 inch frames at a relatively low price... if I can manage to use some coupons or something it'll do.

I'm late to the game, but I got my wife one a few Christmases ago.  It's a 5x7 frame, and it uses an SD card.  Works wonderfully.  It also has USB so you can connect to it via a USB cable.

Be careful of what you buy.  Most digital photo frames from China came with a nasty virus.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

We bought one of these for my mom for Christmas.  It is a bit pricey but worth every penny.  She just called to tell me how much she loves getting the new pictures.

Thanks again JDFan.
